Fat Cat Rescue, Inc. Blog

We are a Cat Rescue and want to share the trials and tribulations of being a rescuer. Share stories about the cats we rescue.

Georgie Porgie and Goldie started it all. On a frigid winter night, Toots Larsen, co-founder of Fat Cat, found an emaciated cat nearly frozen to the side of a house. Georgie might not have survived without Goldie, another feral cat whose howling alerted Toots to Georgie’s plight. Both cats recovered with medical treatment, food, and warm shelter.

Toots and her daughter, Mary Kaye Larsen Olloway, and the Larsen family continued to save cats for years, exhausting their finances out of an inability to allow any animal to suffer. In 2012, Fat Cat Rescue, Inc. became a 501(c)(3) licensed, non-profit charity.

Over 5,000 cats later, the Larsens, and Fat Cat Rescue volunteers continue to rescue feral, homeless, and abandoned cats. Of all those rescued kitties, Kaye chose Mr. Whiskers to be the face of Fat Cat. Mr. Whiskers is our symbol of hope and dedication to our mission. A little boy was forced to give up this beloved cat because of very tragic circumstances. We pledged that Mr. Whiskers would have a loving home for the rest of his life and we have kept that promise. He reminds us that Every Cat Counts.
