Cat Advocacy and Rescue Association - CARA

We are a small Cat Advocacy and Rescue Association located in Windsor, ON. Our goal is to provide the best possible care to feral cats in our community.

Changing Lives - One cat at a time.

CARA is made up of a network of dedicated individuals who are committed to providing the best possible care to feral cats and kittens in Windsor.

We take a comprehensive approach to our rescue work, which includes the following:

- Responding to calls or emails from community members regarding feral cats and kittens

- Trapping feral cats and kittens and bringing them into foster homes

- De-worming and de-fleaing all cats and kittens upon arrival into foster care

- Providing each individual cat or kitten with a full veterinary assessment

- Spaying/neutering, full vaccinations, and any other recommended treatments based on the veterinary assessment

- Behavioural assessments to determine whether the cat or kitten can be socialized for an indoor home

- Adoption into an indoor home OR, if deemed too feral for an indoor home, returned to previous location with a guaranteed neighbourhood caregiver who will provide food, water, shelter, and who will consistently monitor the cat for signs of illness or injury

- Provision of follow up care to released cats where needed or appropriate

We believe that a comprehensive approach is the ONLY responsible approach to feral cat care.
Simply trapping, spaying/neutering, and releasing cats is not enough. Reliable and accessible sources of food, fresh water, and shelter are essential. Furthermore, consistent monitoring is imperative in order to attend to signs of illness or injury in a timely manner.
Many illnesses or injuries can be undetectable unless an attentive individual notices changes in eating habits, behaviour, or physical appearance.
