Hoof & Souls Horse Rescue

We are a horse rescue that saves unwanted horses from slaughter. We Rescue, Rehabilitate, Retrain & Rehome horses at Hoof & Souls for a second chance.

Hoof and Souls is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to rescue and provide care, rehabilitation and adoption services for unwanted, abused, neglected, and abandoned horses.

Hoof and Souls specializes in critical care cases. Quality of life concerns brings attention to some of the horses because they are not being medically treated and treatment options are available.

Hoof and Souls offers sanctuary to all the horses that cannot be placed and does not euthanize for space. Although Hoof and Souls is limited in the number of horses they can help, the ones they do help are promised a safe home for life.

In 2010, a path was taken and lives have been changed forever...
How did our Rescue days start you ask? One day in the summer of 2010 little did i know that the path of our lives would be changed forever! I was on line looking for trailers and ran across an add that said ABANDONDED horses in need of home immediately. I picked up the phone and dialed the number in the add. A woman answered the phone and I asked what the situation was, that we were pretty knowledgeable when it came to horses and asked her what i could do to help. She told me that a girl had purchased two horses and had them at a boarding facility in Rowlett, TX. The owner had not been there in a week and that one of the horses was badly injured and could not get around. She said that the horses went without food for days until the people in the facility realized what was going on and had fed the horses for the last 2 days. She said that the owner was unreachable and the horses needed immediate attention. I told her that I lived right down the road and would be there in 30 minutes. She said that she would jump in her car and meet us there. When we arrived, Doc a big older bay roan had a huge cut on his pastern of his hoof. He could not put pressure on that foot much at all. The woman said that the girl had been doctoring it with peroxide and wrapping it in shipping boots. The injury was a month 1/2 old. While we were there people started coming in from the facility and talking about the situation. We told them that we would take the horses and nurse Doc back to health. Everyone looked at us and said, there is no way that horse is going to be able to walk out of that stall, much less jump into a trailer. We told them that we would do whatever we could to get him home. We opened the gate, put a halter on and even though Doc was in horrible pain, he hopped on 3 legs to the trailer. It took us a minute to help him figure out how to load but he was more than willing to get in that trailer. He knew we were there to help and was ready to get out of there! We loaded the other horse up that was a colt and we named him Cash. Doc went on to make a full recovery that even the vet was pleasently surprised of. I will never forget the day that I looked out into the pasture and Doc took off running. It was truly a blessing to see! Both horses stayed with us until 2014 until we found them both loving homes.

Since that day, we have rescued quite a few unwanted horses. I do not even know how these horses found us but they fell into our hands. We took them in, did what was necessary for each horse them found them forever loving homes. We did not choose this path in life but It's something we absolutely love to do!
