Today was an exciting day for Jax! This stunning 10 year old shepherd has been in foster for 6 months and today was his adoption day. Want to know the secret surprise Jax’s adopters learned when they were finalizing his adoption? Jax’s adoption fee was graciously sponsored by the Winstel family. You see, they were a mixed family of GSD’s and Chihuahuas. After their last dog, Katiebelle, passed they decided to stop by the shelter to look around & that’s when they saw Jax who resembled their beloved late German shepherds. To help this handsome senior find his happy ending they decided to pay for his adoption. Congratulations to Jax and his new family. May you all have many happy years together!

🐾VOLUNTEER & ADOPTABLE DOG FEATURE!🐾 Diane from Barkside Training is one of our wonderful certified trainers that volunteers her time working with our shelter animals (along with guiding and educating staff/other volunteers.) Today Diane is working with adoptable dog Chupacabra, on the touch command, leash desensitization, and some of his handling sensitivities. Originially a stray, Chupacabra quickly became overstimulated with the hustle and bustle of shelter life which shows in his kennel presence. Now that Diane has began his training journey you can see how engaging, wiggly, smart, and so very sweet he is!

Chupacabra needs an experienced adopter that can be patient and guide him during his decompression period once home. Not ready to adopt just yet? Chupacabra can also be fostered! Email fosterNACC@norfolk.gov for all the details!

Help us CLEAR out the shelter and get all the dogs, cats,rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and gerbils a home for the holiday season.

😛 ADOPTABLE CAT: JASMINE! 😛 Jasmine knows she’s as cute as a tasty snack. This young girl is social, spayed, and a ball to be around. You can normally find Jasmine hopping up and down her condo levels or rolling around playing with a toy. Jasmine would love a home that she can do her daily exercise activities and spoil her with lots of enrichment. Once the energy is out she is quite snuggly! Interested in meeting Jasmine? ♥️ ADOPTABLE DOG: VENUS ♥️ Did you know that Venus has been in foster the longest out of all of our foster dogs? This beautiful girl (with ears that sit on her head like a hat) arrived to us as a stray and we quickly learned that the hustle and bustle of shelter life is way too much and stresses her out. Venus soon went into a foster home where she is THRIVING! This girl is perfectly potty and house trained, loves her doggie door to go outside as she pleases, and is a major cuddle bug! She would do best as an only pet in an adult only home. Venus is back at the shelter while her foster mom is traveling. Can we get her adopted so she can have a home for the howlidays??! Come on Hampton Roads, Venus needs you!

🐱 ADOPTABLE CATS 🐱 Lil Cleftie & Big Normie are a bonded pair of brother kittens that would love to debut their new boy band in your home. These cuties, originally strays, are active and so very sweet. As you can see Lil Cleftie was born with a cleft lip, but at this time is not requiring surgery. Both kittens are looking for a home together but fret not, their adoption fee of $75 covers both of them!
