South Jersey Horse Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and sanctuary of unwanted, neglected and abused horses.

South Jersey Horse Rescue is a rescue and rehabilitation facility for all breeds of equines.

When new rescues arrive, we carefully evaluate each one to identify its needs and make sure it gets the healing, love, and care it requires to bring it back to health and happiness.

Most of the horses that come to us have been traumatized. Sometimes they are so afraid that it takes time for them to understand that they are finally safe, and they need to learn to trust humans again. Volunteers may just sit in the field with a horse for hours at a time, eventually drawing them into gentle, playful interaction. We build a bridge of trust, which leads to understanding and cooperation. Once they are happy and confident, we can assess their abilities and give them whatever training they may require so we can carefully match them with the right new home. We do have some permanent residents, but strive to adopt out as many animals as possible to loving forever homes.
