The difference foster homes make in the lives of homeless pets can never be measured enough!! Thank you @adventure_emma for working with Stella and ensuring she stays off the streets! 😂 😂 😂
Vanya came into Pope Memorial Humane Society a stray cat. Staff quickly realized she was very pregnant and within a matter of days, Vanya gave birth to six kittens! That was a few months ago. Vanya’s kittens are finding their new homes, Vanya has been spayed and is ready for a loving home of her own! Help Vanya find her perfect people! Spread the word about this fun loving, gorgeous gal. #cat #mommacat #adoptME #picME #kitty #friday photo credit to the incomparable @pj.walter.photography 💕
On Wednesday, we had a puppy paint party and announced the names of the three hound puppies! Quite a few people asked to see the masterpieces created by the three pups. It only seems fitting to show you each puppy with its name and artwork.
A special note, Joey, Ross, and Chandler are not quite ready for adoption. PMHS adoption counselors are currently going through puppy adoption applications to find the best fit for these hounds and will be contacting applicants soon!

Meet sweet older gal Gerd. At 17 years old, this sprightly gal is looking for a new home. Yes, she is wearing a sweater. It's getting chilly, and she needs to stay warm! When Gerd arrived at Pope Memorial Humane Society, her owner had recently passed away, and the vet had already shaved her due to her fur being so matted. Gerd would love a cozy new home. Do you have room in your heart and home for a gentle, loving, senior gal? Pope Memorial Humane Society is open Monday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. Stop by and meet Gerd!

Yesterday we introduced you to three hound puppies. Surprise, there is a fourth sibling.
When this girl arrived at Pope Memorial Humane Society, she was emaciated, dehydrated, and not breathing well. PMHS staff immediately brought her to the ER, where she stayed on oxygen, fluids, and antibiotics for two days. Her bloodwork showed she was in danger of organ failure, and she would not have lived much longer. She has been gaining ground each day. Eating and drinking well and will go in for a recheck of her blood work today. Hopefully, she will have no long-lasting effects. There doesn't appear to be one leading cause for her illness, but the antibiotics and supportive care seem to be sorting it out.
This sweet gal's medical bills are mounting, and she still doesn't have a name! Since her story is sad, but she has a strong chance at pulling through, maybe Sarah? Queue the Sarah McLaughlin song! Any donations made through this post will go directly to her medical care. If you're unable to donate, will you share this post and help spread her story? #houndsofinstagram #hound #puppy #puppiesofinstagram #houndpuppy #puppylove
It's time for a round of name that puppy! Pope Memorial Humane Society has three hound puppy brothers looking for names. Let's have some fun. Post your name suggestions as comments below. One name per comment, please! The comments with the most likes/loves (between Facebook and Instagram) will be chosen as puppy names! Winning names will be announced next week!
A few things to consider.
1. Let's keep this family friendly.
2. Don't forget to "like/love" your favorite names!
3. If the top names are already in use at PMHS, the next most popular will be chosen.
4. One of the pups has a bit of a funky eyelid, it is being looked at by a veterinarian!
5. These puppies are not currently available for adoption. Anyone interested in adopting should head to www.popehumane.org to fill out the online adoption application.
Sometimes kittens are brought to Pope Memorial Humane Society in carriers, sometimes they come in a cardboard box. No matter the means of transport, the staff and volunteers of PMHS get to work. These nuggets are heading into a foster home where they will get big and strong before going up for adoption. Kitten season never ends!!! Shoutout to @ruckusdonuts for buying a ton of kitten chow to help feed these nuggets!!! #kittens #kittenseason #kitten #cute #boxofkittens
Meet Marty. When we asked the cat staff about Marty, you know, how would you describe this handsome guy type questions... you know what they said?!?! Unpredictable. Ok. Ok. That may not be the glowing adjective we were looking for but we know there are a lot of you out there that like a little spice in your life! Do you thrive on being spontaneous? How would you like to adopt a cat that may feel the same way? Meet Marty. He's unpredictable. #spicycat #unpredictable #tuesday #catlovers #cats #catsofig #popememorialhumanesociety #picME #adoptME
This is a bit of a longer IG post for us. Please bear with us and read about Donut! At only six months old, Donut already has a story! Donut was found after being hit by a car. He was brought to the ER, where the emergency veterinarians discovered he had a degloved tail, a broken femur on his back left leg, and a fractured pelvis on the right side. He also had a wound under his tail full of maggots. The ER contacted Pope Memorial Humane Society to see if we could help as he is only six months old and super friendly.
Our local veterinarians are crazy busy. Fortunately, Dr. Yovino didn’t hesitate when we asked if he could help Donut. Dr. Yovino had Donut brought down to Harbor Road Veterinary Hospital. The next day Donut had a tail amputation and pins put in to save his left leg. Not knowing how the pelvis would heal, we didn’t want to amputate his left leg. Donut has a long road of healing ahead, including many vet visits for rechecks and X-rays to make sure the leg is mending correctly. We are hopeful his pelvis will heal and not require surgery in the future.
Donut’s medical bills are mounting, and he will be on crate rest for many more weeks. If you want to donate to Donut’s care, you can donate through the linktree in our bio or directly through IG. Thank you so much for being so supportive! Donut is going to heal and eventually find his perfect home!

Ok, cat lovers and art collectors. Ollie spent a lot of time on his masterpiece. He's even stated that the lucky person that adopts him gets to bring home his one-of-a-kind piece of art! He calls it "Visions of Catnip," and we're pretty sure it belongs in a museum somewhere. Stay tuned for more works of art from other PMHS animals; Ollie's creativity inspires them! #masterpiece #gingercat #spicycat #catlife #cats #catlovers #catsofig #PMHS #popememorialhumanesociety #picME #adoptME

Remember the song A Boy Named Sue? Well, this is a cat named Cindy. He is handsome, a little shy, 100% adorable, and enjoys the company of other cats! At roughly six months old, he is a bit of an awkward teenager but we love him and know the most amazing home is out there, is it you?!?! #cats #catlovers #catsofig #popememorialhumanesociety #picME #adoptME #PMHS #gingercat
