Meet Chass! This poor little boy was adopted on 8/4 and returned on 8/21 severely malnourished, underweight, dehydrated, and also starved for attention. He went from 3.2 pounds before adoption to 2.4 pounds on return. He's gaining the weight back but progress is slow, and what's more is gaining his trust back after his horrible experience. The cost of his vet care is rising (can't feed too much too soon or other issues can develop) and he has a long road to recovery. Ramona has the face made for movies and magazines and she knows it! This mini panther beauty is just dying to be in selfies with her forever human and would love to make that happen asap!

I appear to be a mini house panther. I’m about 3 years old and do well with other cats. I do well with kids but dogs are unknown at this time. I was rescued from St Joseph’s County Humane Society. **Alumni Update!!**

In the beginning of January, we received a message on our FB page asking for more information on Sylvester, who was at one of our partner pet stores.

A previous adopter spotted him and thought he was the bee's knees and wanted to know more about him and his FIV+ situation. After sending her some information and research on him and FIV, she got in touch with Sylvesters foster and set up a meet and greet and took him home.

To say it was a perfect match is an understatement!

Sylvester's, nka Otto, adopter wrote in:

"I have a bittersweet update. When Sylvester came home to us on Jan 6, one of his very first friends was my oldest cat, Luka. They became fast friends. Luka passed away at the age of 19 last week. Since his passing, Sylvester (now Otto) has hardly left my side.

Otto has now plumped out a bit and here are some more pictures. He gets along with every single one of my kitties and sleeps with them on the bed.

Just wanted to say what an incredible cuddle bug he is, and I’m so glad I took a chance and adopted him even though he is FIV positive. My non FIV kitties love him so there is zero chance of them fighting. Otto has been an amazing comfort to me in my mourning. So thank you."

We've gotten so many alumni updates lately, we wanted to make sure to share them all ❤️

"I’ve wanted to update you on my kitty friend Rory! His story always makes me smile☺️

After my first Alum kitty, Wink, AKA Rory at your shelter passed due to a 1 and 10,000 disorder, I went to your shelter to donate his unused supplied and this kitty came right up to me and let me hold him for as long as i wanted🥰 I asked his name and it was “Winkey” just like my angel kitty Wink🥺 I knew i had to take him home so that’s exactly what i did🥰 He’s my best friend and such a snuggler! He’s living the life with his two tortie sisters and one brother! Thank you for making my heart whole again❤️❤️

We were divided keeping his name Winkey, which was too close to our angel kitties name so we changed it to Rory to honor Wink❤️"

We are so glad you were able to give another kitty such a wonderful forever home and we're sure Wink is looking down and smiling, knowing that you have another companion to love and snuggle with.

As we're all digging ourselves out of the snow again today, here is another wonderful alumni update!!

Kane, fka Casey is living his best life in his second forever home through St. Sophia's!!

Casey was adopted from St. Sophia's almost six years ago. A call from another rescue brought him back to us with a very sad tale. He was found outside by a kind gentleman who updated all of his medical but wasn't able to take him in himself despite how sweet Casey was. He brought him to animal control knowing this guy was far too sweet to be living on the streets. The animal control found his microchip and contacted his adopter who did not want him back. Another rescue had agreed to take him in but once they found out he was originally a St. Sophia's cat, they reached out to see if he wanted to come back to us, which we absolutely did.

It's unclear how long this sweet boy was left to fend for himself on the streets or why his original adopter discarded him like he was nothing, but it didn't take him long once back in our care to find his true forever home. And he is very much loved and will never have to fend for himself on the streets again!!

Alumni update on this snowy day!!

Sylvester was adopted a little over a year ago and is enjoying his forever home with his snuggle buddy! 🥰

Sylvester came to us as a little bottle baby kitty when he was found on a cold day in a window well. After some TLC from our volunteers, he was adopted into his loving home and is very loved by his humans and pitty brother alike!

*UMBRIDGE*

Meet Umbridge! Sweet as can be, with a little bit of Sass, this girl is around 4 years old.

She came to St. Sophias from Safe Harbor Humane Society with her litter of kittens. The whole family was adopted back in 2017 (separately), but Umbridge was recently returned to our care this fall when her owner moved and couldn't take her.

Umbridge is an active cat that needs a busy home. She does well with other cats and dogs and older children.

Hi, I’m Topher. I’m a super sweet and larger than life kind of guy. I have been waiting for a home for months now at the previous shelter, Sangamon County Animal Control, with no interest.

Being an older black cat sadly I’ve been overlooked. I’m 7 years old and super friendly. I love to play still and love people. I would do well in a busy household and do well with other cats and kids. I haven’t met a dog before but might be okay with one with the proper introduction and patience. Hi I’m Sonic. I’m super sweet and friendly. I was rescued from Chicago animal control and had been found as a stray. I love people and love laps.

Im 6 years old and would love to meet my forever family as I know they’re out there somewhere. Upon coming from animal control, I busted out of my cardboard box in the car and sat in my fosters lap and on the front seat the whole time. I didn’t mind the ride and was so happy to be safe and sound.

I get along well with other cats, kids and dogs. Come meet me today and fall in love!
