Palomino 311 Horse Rescue

This page focuses on horses who were rescued from either the New Holland auction in PA, Cranbury NJ, or from other killbuyer lots around the country.

The name comes from my second rescue, Dakota. When I looked at the papers I was given when she got off the trailer, I noticed that on her coggins form under name it said "Palomino 311". That was her auction tag number. The sight of that broke my heart even more than the sight of her. She didn't even have a name. She was going to die nameless had I not had a lapse in sanity and thought having 2 horses was a good idea. When she was delivered to me after 30 days of quarantine she was literally on deaths door. She was this skinny, hollow shell of a horse that looked like she had given up. Unsure of what her fate was, she slowly stepped off the trailer and took a glance around at her surroundings. At one point she was probably someone's favorite pony but then after who knows what(she does have heaves so that could have been a contributing factor of her ending up at auction) she ended up emaciated, dirty, feet overgrown, and mainly spiritless. The sparkle was gone from her eye. She willingly went into the barn and into her new, clean stall and gave a sigh of relief. Little did I know at that moment what would come in the next few weeks. After a few days of coughing and snotty nose, the vet came out to do tests. Ultimately we would learn that she had the flu and pneumonia. Leading up to that diagnosis was incorrect lab results, quarantining an ENTIRE barn, and unrelenting stress and emotional exhaustion. I have started writing her story and soon I will have it up here.
