Liberty Acres United Rescue Animal Sanctuary
Liberty Acres United Rescue Animal Sanctuary is a non profit Sanctuary for senior, special needs, geriatric, disabled and behavioral dogs. These dogs would many times be euthanized at other shelters. The dogs live in a home like environment until adoption
Liberty Acres United Rescue Animal Sanctuary is a nonprofit Sanctuary for those animals that society has labelled unadoptable. We are dedicated to rescuing animals from other facilities where they have run out of time and are subject to being euthanized, along with animals who have lost their owner due to death or illness. These are the animals that have no other options. We would like to offer them a home until a forever family is found. If a forever home is not an option for them we will provide a loving environment and care for them until the end of their days.
We firmly believe each animal should be judged on their character and not on their breed, age or disability.
Animals in our care receive proper veterinary care including spay/neuter which in turn helps in the prevention of over population of companion animals. If the animal has an illness that is unable to be treated they will receive pain management until the time the veterinarian deems the medication is no longer working. If we must euthanize an animal for an uncurable illness that animal will be euthanized by a licensed veterinarian. During which time we will celebrate the life they lived and let them pass with dignity and love.
We also strive to work with other shelters and rescues to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for the animals.
About us:
Welcome to Liberty Acres United Rescue Animal Sanctuary. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) Sanctuary focusing on a new way to house displaced animals. We want our dogs to have all the comforts of living in a home while they wait for their furrever family. The dogs live in tiny houses in small groups. Each house is furnished with comfy seating, doggy door, entertainment, heating/cooling and a fenced in area.
There are 22 acres of property for the dogs to explore. The volunteers and staff spend their time taking the dogs on hikes on the trails, swimming in the pond or running through the woods in the six acre off leash area. Housing the dogs in this way helps us learn more about how they would do in a home setting. We are able to work with them on house training and other behavioral issues before they go to live with a new family. Our goal is to provide them with not only a place to wait for a home, but a place where they can feel at home.
About Adopting:
To adopt please go to www.libertyacresunited.com/application/ to submit an application. Once it is processed you will receive a call notifying you of the status of the application. If the application is approved, we will set up a time for you to meet with your potential new house mate.
Please note that if you have dogs currently we recommend that you bring them with you to meet the new dog. Adoption fees are $100 for an adult dog and $125 for a puppy. This includes the spay/neuter and vaccinations. You will receive all of the medical records when the adoption is completed.
How we got started:
Wayne County, Indiana has many wonderful animal rescue groups that try their best to help each other out. Unfortunately, with a couple exceptions, many of those shelters are forced to euthanize 'unwanted animals' to make room for 'more adoptable' ones. Gary Sigler, our founder, had a vision to create a sanctuary for those 'unwanted animals' because our mindset is that no animal should go without a loving home. We are working hard at Liberty Acres to create the sanctuary of Gary's dreams--and we could use YOUR HELP! We are still in the early stages of development, but we've already come such a long way. We are in need of volunteers to help build animal housing, fence-in the property, and many other things. We are also in financial need. We are doing well as of now, but being as we have no money coming in, we are going to need help.
Helping homeless animals is something that we feel everyone can get behind. If you would like to donate or volunteer, please reach out as we'd love to meet you! If you're unable to help, please invite all of your friends to like our Facebook page so that we can get the word out about this amazing sanctuary.

but you have the power to rewrite its future."
