It is around this time of year that we try to be especially thankful, especially grateful. And today, just a few days before Thanksgiving, I’m especially grateful for our wonderful community of fosters and volunteers, and the adoption of one little brown pittie named Dexter Wilde.

Dexter came to us from the Lancaster Shelter back in August when they put out an urgent plea for rescue. The details read that “he was apparently in the back of the truck, chained, with a man making comments about him - treating him like throwaway trash.” We sent out the plea to our community of volunteers and the Velasquez’, former fosters and adopters of one of the “Halloween puppies”, offered to bring him into their home. This past Sunday he went to his forever home.

There was some debate on what his name would be; his new mom favored "Meatball" but his dad absolutely refuses to name a pet after food. :) So Dexter he will stay!

If you would like to be part of the wonderful experience of fostering, please contact Cindy Chadwick – she will be more than happy to bring one of the many less fortunate dogs who have no home, into yours.

We urgently (desperately) need a temporary foster home for our big boy, Aiden, over Thanksgiving. The boarding facilities have been booked for weeks so we have nowhere for him to go. He needs someplace with no other pets so that makes it difficult but we know our RHS family can come up with a plan.

He’s a big boy and he doesn’t require much. He has some aches and pains because he hasn’t had the easiest life, so he takes medication to keep pain at bay.

Does anyone have space for him? Dates: 11/24-29. He just needs a chill house with a backyard and no other pets. We know that you will thoroughly enjoy his company!❤️ Contact Cindy Chadwick ASAP if you have any ideas.

Such a fun day at Velvet Snout as we celebrated the 1st birthday of our Halloween puppies AND finalized the adoption of the last member of the litter!

All 8 puppies were able to attend. Although 7 were adopted in the spring, Mavis had some medical issues to get past before we could finalize her adoption. She was finally ready last week and it seemed appropriate to make things official with all her siblings in attendance. :) Now known as Misha, she's been with her adoptive family for many months as they patiently waited for her to be ready. She's clearly a happy and well-loved girl, and despite being decidedly the smallest of the litter, she was running, playing, chasing, tugging and fetching right along with the rest of them.

Somewhat amazingly, we were able to get the entire litter sitting and (mostly) facing the same direction at the same time. From left to right in the group shot are Mavis (now Misha), Jack, Twix, Marshmallow, Drac, Merlin, Raven and Boo (now Bo). At least, I think that's right; someone correct me if I mixed anyone up.

Thank you to Justine and the team at The Velvet Snout Canine Adventure Center for letting us use their play yard today, to Cindy for organizing everything, and to the adoptive and foster families who came out to enjoy the sunshine, cooler temps and general mayhem!

The Mario Litter is getting ready to sprout Wing Caps and fly! Looking for fosters to take puppies in pairs, so that means we need THREE homes starting around the first week of Nov. This is a small breed litter.

The puppies will be kept in pairs until about the middle of Dec, then they will be ready to go into their single-foster-to-adopt homes.

Mama Dorrie is guessed to be long hair Chi mix. She is VERY sweet. She sat very pregnant in the shelter until we found her. One of our great foster families took on whelping and now we have this precious, healthy little litter. The boy pups are Mario, Yoshi & Bowser, and the girls are Princess Peach, Princess Daisy & Valentina.
