For me It all started with a dog named Nugget.

This little golden Nugget helped launch the geriatric compassion program with Ferdinand's Familia and was the catalyst to step into the role of Synergy...(FF is the only ALL animal rescue in San Diego. It is an honor to do rescue work with them).

I was taking a tour of the shelter with Ferdinand's Familia in San Diego and there was this little old skinny dog (he looked a little like an opossum) barely moving in the back kennel, awaiting death. The shelter said he had one more day and then that was it. I decided then and there that I would take him to spend the remainder of his old life with me and my animal family. I would love him and do everything I could to stop the pain and provide him with dignity for his last days.

Nugget was given 2 weeks to live, but with the amazing help of Dra Rebeca Serrano, he lived for another 7 months. He beat the odds, lived longer, loved longer, played longer because he received love, care and respect.

He changed my life and I am in awe by this golden nuggets strength. I miss him everyday and work in honor of his memory.

We will continue to provide respect and dignity to all beings, no matter of their age, appearance or health status, and as we work together we will end the killing of animals at shelters, promoting a no kill nation.
