CAUTION! Dwight is too cute for his own good! While this is true, the real reason Dwight wears a caution collar is because he is blind and extremely hard of hearing - both things that, understandably, contribute to being easily startled. Dwight is known to react by defending himself, so a caution collar helps warn visitors and volunteers that he is a hands-off dog for their safety and his comfort. Seatbelt? Check. Blanket? Check. Sunglasses? Check! Ms. Peggy is all ready to go for a ride! This pretty girl (also the cover girl of our 2022 Calendar!) used to be heartworm positive, but we are happy to share her treatment was successful and she is now heartworm free! The treatment she received, which we also use on many of our heartworm positive Old Friends, costs an average of $465.50 for three injections and supplemental prescription during the 31-day treatment. That's about $15.02 per day to fight the good fight against heartworms! Chewy is enjoying the last day of his holiday weekend, but can't believe it's already coming to an end. December is just a couple days away! That means that he'll be receiving his monthly preventatives (heartworm, flea, and tick), which we provide to all of our dogs at the sanctuary AND to those in forever homes! On average, it costs $14.22 per dog for monthly preventatives; with about 500 dogs in our care, that's roughly $7,110 per month! Deeno may have extremely limited vision, but boy can he tell time! He knows dinner is right around the corner and that brings a sweet smile to his face! Shasta is sticking her tongue out at having to wear a cone. We get it; it's not fun! However, Shasta has had an eye infection that we are trying to help her overcome, and she unfortunately must wear a traditional e-collar as her determination to get to her eye is too great for a soft cone to combat. Gentle Alfred receives just about every type of physical therapy we provide! With a torn cruciate in both back legs and Wobblers disease, he is a perfect candidate for chiropractic care, laser therapy, soundwave therapy, underwater treadmill, and acupuncture! Did you know that it costs us $100 per hour to provide acupuncture to our senior dogs? Our acupuncturist is on-site 2-4 hours each week and treats 12 Old Friends living at The PAWvillions. That's about $66.67 - $133.33 per dog per month! The benefits are apparent and it is a worthwhile treatment. Old Friend Robby, bonded with the other half of the Poodle Puddle, Henry, and Baby Cakes, is so photogenic! This little guy is completely blind and has Mitral Valve Disease, which requires daily medication and regular echocardiogram rechecks. Handsome Hank is a big bundle of love! This sweet boy has terrible skin allergies and a deep infection of the hair follicles, which is why he has patches of thin or missing hair. Thankfully, we are able to keep him comfortable and help his condition with medicated baths twice a week as well a regimen of antibiotics and supplements, and we have already seen great improvements since his arrival!
