Throwback to this great #Caturday #seniorsforseniors adoption! Last Saturday, the Robersons braved Richmond Marathon traffic to adopt a beautiful 11-year-old cat named Jasmine.
Upon returning home with their new feline family member, they sent an email saying that Jasmine appeared happy with her new surroundings and was purring and rubbing against their legs in contentment.
On Sunday, we received another wonderful update: "Jasmine sleeps on us and with us. She never passes up an opportunity for a head-to-head boop and she loves the wide windowsill where she can lay in the sun. She wants both of us to feel the love! We are thrilled with her! She now has full access to the house and it’s like she has always lived here. We have realized that we needed her as much as she needed us! Bless you all for bringing her to us."
We are so thrilled that we were able to unite the Robersons with Jasmine! Let us help you find your perfect match. Visit our adoption center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today!

Why, yes, it is unusual to see pets other than cats or dogs here. However, one of our municipal partners asked and we said, “Yes!” We are looking for loving homes for two guinea pigs, named Boba and Tea, and a rabbit, Café.
These adorable pets were seized by animal control in Fluvanna County from a home that was not providing adequate care. Unable to keep them at their facility, they asked if we could assist in finding them loving, lasting homes. If you are interested in adopting these special four-legged friends, please visit our humane center from noon to 7 p.m. today.

In August, we brought Bean, a stray dog who was hit by a car in Louisa County, into our loving care. Upon intake, radiographs showed that he had a fractured left tibia, fibula and right humerus. Though all of his fractures were severe, Richmond SPCA veterinarian Dr. David Molinas feared that his humerus was beyond surgical repair and would require amputation.
After stabilizing the tibia with a splint, Bean was placed in a loving foster home to heal before surgical plans were made. After several weeks of crate rest, Bean returned for a check-up and to everyone's surprise, radiographs showed that not only the tibia had healed, but that his humerus showed significant healing as well.
Thanks to the dedication of our veterinary team and the excellent care of Bean's foster, Bean is comfortably walking and has sufficiently healed enough to be placed for adoption.
Though Bean will potentially need future radiographs to monitor his healing, our shelter veterinary team is pleased with how well this sweet 2-year-old pup has healed and are eager to find him a loving, lasting home. If you are interested in Bean, please visit our adoption center from noon to 7 p.m. today!

We had a fantastic adoption week with 87 pets finding their perfect matches! We are especially excited to announce that a bonded senior pair named Ned and Ted were adopted! Thanks to your support of our Cinderella Fund, Ned was treated for severe periodontal disease and was reunited with his brother and made available for adoption. Now in a loving, lasting home, their guardian reports, "Everyone that meets them falls in love! They are so sweet. Thank you for all that you do and helping us find our new best friends!"

Last week, we featured a wonderful senior cat in our care named Cinderella. Shortly after posting about her, this beautiful calico kitty met her perfect match in Wendi.
After emailing with Adoption Counselor Olivia about a suitable feline companion, Wendi visited our humane center on her 71st birthday to meet Cinderella. As a retired nurse and avid cat lover, Wendi was not deterred by the needs of a diabetic cat like Cinderella. Over her lifetime, Wendi has cared for several senior cats including a cat with kidney disease whom she administered subcutaneous fluids to for nine years.
We are so happy that Cinderella got her fairytale ending and we are thankful to Olivia for making this purr-fect #seniorsforseniors match! For more information about our Carol Young Godin Seniors for Seniors adoption program, please visit our website. Link in bio.

Good luck to our staff and volunteers who are running the #RichmondMarathon today! Manager of Internal Veterinary Services Brittany Pierri, Associate Veterinarian Dr. Brit'nee Haskins, Licensed Veterinary Technician Katie Goodell as well as Running Buddies volunteer Leanne Battle (not pictured) have been training hard. We hope you'll join us in rooting for these compassionate animal lovers!
After cheering on your friends, please stop by our humane center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. to meet our pets awaiting adoption. Race organizers recommend the Waze App to navigate RVA road closures today.

Little Spooky and his friends at the Richmond SPCA need your help – we are OUT of dryer sheets. That static electricity is no joke for our volunteers and staff doing laundry for the hundreds of pets in our care each day. 🙀
Please help us out by dropping off FRAGRANCE FREE dryer sheets at our Robins-Starr Humane Center (2519 Hermitage Road) or you can purchase them online and have them shipped directly to us using our Amazon wish list at the link in our profile.
Thank you! 💖

*Update: Flynn has been adopted!*
Happy #FelineFriday from our resident chonky cat - Flynn. Can you guess how much he weighs? This jumbo-sized package of fluff and love is only 3 years old and needs an active adult guardian who can help hom get back down to a healthy weight through proper diet and exercise.
In his previous home, Flynn was said to do well with the resident dog, but would bully his feline companion and take his food. Naughty Flynn. *Cue the Rocky music* If you are interested in opening your home to Flynn and helping him achieve a healthy weight, please visit our adoption center and ask an adoption counselor to introduce you to him today!

If you found your best friend at our adoption center in the last three years, it's very likely that Page Grissom or Kelsey Powell helped you find your match. Both are lead adoption counselors who came to work at the Richmond SPCA in 2018, and in the last month, they both individually reached the milestone of completing 1,000 total unique adoptions.
Please congratulate them on this accomplishment! We are so grateful for all the work they do helping both the pets in our care and the people who visit our adoption center.
