We believe in the 5 Freedoms of Animals:

• Freedom from Hunger and Thirst - by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.

• Freedom from Discomfort - by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.

• Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease - by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.

• Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour - by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind.

• Freedom from Fear and Distress - by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

Caim Animal Rescue Network is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

caim (n.) lit. "sanctuary";
An invisible circle of protection that reminds you that you are safe and loved, even in the darkest times.
Origin | Scottish/Gaelic
Pronunciation | kyme

What started out as a personal mission to rescue a dog in desperate need of help, that I met while traveling through Namibia, became the foundation of Caim Animal Rescue Network.

The difficulties I encountered trying to get help to an animal 2500km away, made me realise that there was a need for a central resource of information accessible to everyone.

The original purpose of Caim was to raise awareness and to put people in contact with organisations best placed to act on information reported. It quickly grew into much more; covering a wide range of issues including adoption, spaying and reporting abuse.

I continually update the site with news, events and information. While it is important to me to tackle the serious issues we face, I like to include inspirational feel-good stories that celebrate the achievements of dedicated organisations and individuals.

I believe that collectively, even the smallest acts made by people like you and me, can make a significant difference.
