Stone Cradle Cat Rescue

Stone Cradle Cat Rescue

The official Facebook page regarding the rescue of the feral cats that were left behind at the burnt down Stone Cradle Restaurant in Pretoria.

As most of you are aware, the Stone Cradle Restaurant in Rietvlei tragically burned down. Somebody was aware that there were feral cats, but was only allowed on the site a week later to check on the cats.

With total shock and horror we found and overwhelming number of adult cats, teenagers and kittens there. They have never been fed by the restaurant and were living off the rubbish bins. Obviously after the fire there was no food available for them.

We immediately started feeding the cats and estimate that there are a vast number of adult cats and kittens.

So far, we managed to save 45 kittens which we took to a foster mother. Sadly, 8 of the kittens died shortly after being rescued. The kittens were very dehydrated, thin and ill with snuffles. We also managed to trap 35 adult cats.

After the cats are caught, they are immediately taken to Bornfrè Cat Haven in Pretoria. They are tested for Feline AIDS and Leukaemia and sterilised the following day, after which they are released into a large cage. They remain in the cage for a period of time and are then let out to roam free on the small-holding.

We are always in need of volunteers to help catch the feral cats and clean/build cages.
