We rescue the older or special needs dogs, one at a time, as space permits.

Bernie's Buddies Senior Dog Sanctuary is our home-based
rescue effort to save the lives of older and/or special needs dogs. We rescue as space permits. We do not adopt dogs out. They will live here for the remainder of their lives. We do not ask for donations.

Bernie's Buddies is named after our dog Bernie. We adopted him at about age 12 in 2011. He was dumped in a county shelter after, I suspect, his previous owner found out he had prostate cancer. Bernie died in June 2012 from kidney failure related to the cancer. While we had previously sought out these older or special needs dogs, we have done so since Bernie's death in his name.
