Hugh benefited from Salt Lake County Animal Services – Injured Animal Fund.

Meet Hugh! Hugh came into Salt Lake County Animal Services when he was only 9 months old and upon entering the shelter he was not in the best of shape. Once he arrived our on-site veterinarian Dr. Hill determined that poor Hugh had a pelvic fracture and was going to need surgery. Thank goodness for our Injured Animal Fund because Hugh’s surgery was approved!

On January 11, 2021 Dr. Steinman with Orthopedic Veterinary Services performed an FHO Surgery. *FHO, or Femoral Head Ostectomy, is a surgical procedure that aims to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased or damaged hip, by removing the head and neck of the femur. Upon completion of the surgery, Dr. Steinman reported that the surgery went very well.

After surgery Hugh was extremely lucky because he was able to go straight into a foster home where he could recover. Here is what his foster family have to say about him: “We are so happy that funds were available for Hugh to get the surgery he needed. His adopted family and all of us would have been robbed of experiencing time with such an amazing animal if it could not have been done. Hugh is the sweetest, most playful puppy even when he was healing after surgery. We really hope every dog like Hugh gets a change to get better and live a happy life – Foster Mom Katy and Daughter Violet, age 9.” Once medically cleared Hugh got adopted by a wonderful family on February 2, 2021.

DOUBLE YOUR DONATION this month from a matching gift from Bjorn’s Brew for GivingTuesday – Injured Animal Fund!

Meet Louie! This little 3 month old kitten was found injured and abandoned in a residents backyard located in Salt Lake County on May 31, 2021. When Salt Lake County Animal Services Control Officer arrived to pick up the stray kitten the home owner stated that the kittens back legs were swollen and he hadn’t moved for quite a while.
Dr. Hill one of our wonderful veterinarians was able to examine Louie upon his arrival to the shelter. During this time radiographs were done and they quickly proved that Louie had a right distal metaphyseal fracture to the tibia and fibula with significant displacement. Dr. Hill felt it was best to amputate his leg due to the location of the fracture and because of how young Louie was. On June 7, 2021 Dr. Hill performed Louie’s sterilization surgery and a right rear limb amputation. After only a few short days later little Louie was up running around and doing very well. Louie was then quickly released off medical hold and placed up for adoption.

On June 12, 2021 Louie was adopted into his new wonderful forever home! Here is what his adopters have to say about him now: “We love him so much and he has such a wonderful personality. It is such a joy to see him overcome these obstacles and limitations. Thank you so much to Salt Lake County Animal Services for saving him and treating him.”

Dudley is an easy going and mellow guy but still has a lot of pep in his step. He is a little shy when first meeting someone, but he warms up quickly. Dudley loves treats and if you have them, it is a great way to become fast friends. He enjoys playing ball in the yard and soaking up the sunshine. Dudley enjoys attention and leisurely activities, but is content to just hang out with you when you have work to do and would love a soft bed to call his own.
