Meet Harriet, quite possibly the nicest dog you’ll ever meet. She’s a 7-year-old Hound mix who weighs 62 pounds. This sweet lady has been through a lot while living life as a stray in Alabama, including a soccer-ball-sized hernia from which she is now fully healed. She’s ready to live the good life and is looking for just the right home in which to do it.
Harriet sleeps A LOT, like 90% of the time a lot. The rest of the time she’s following her people around, snuggling, or looking for ways to score herself a treat. A food-motivated girl, Harriet will bark to let you know when the treats have run out or when she wants something. She can get quite loud at times, so would be better placed in a single family home than in one with shared walls. But that is truly her only vice. When she gets a little loud, her foster mom just reminds her that she’s a southern lady, and she’s embarrassing herself and that tends to do the trick!
A very well behaved lady, Harriet is completely housebroken and will settle fairly quickly into her crate, where she goes when her foster mom is away from the house and also at night. That said, Harriet loves herself a good couch and has no qualms about sneaking her way onto the furniture if she gets the chance. She also has no concept of personal space, like zero. Sit down on the couch and you’ll quickly find her body overlapping yours. Walk into the kitchen for a snack, she’s right on your heels. She just wants to remind you she loves you and wants to be near you.
If you’re looking for a super sweet girl who likes snuggling and snoozing, Harriet may be the perfect housemate for you. Can you be Harriet’s rescue hero?
Meet party boy Ritter. This boy was a staff favorite from the sending shelter in Alabama. Now he’s the most popular pup at his doggie daycare. Aside from his stunning good looks, what’s up with this 1-year-old Hound mix?
His foster mom reports, “He is stunning — such a gorgeous dog. His ears are literally made of velvet. Ritter's going to be an amazing family member. He is young and is trying to be a good boy, but makes a mistake here and there. You can't stay mad at him though, he will look at you with that big goofy grin, that waggly tail and that one ear flipped over and you will melt all over again!”
Ritter loves to play, play, play! He’s a goofy, active young fella who will need regular exercise. He gets along with everyone — the other dogs at day care, new people, kids, cats. Certain the world is full of all good things, Ritter welcomes everyone and convinces them of his world view!
He’s still a pup, so is working on reining in his exuberance. Ritter might be found counter surfing or stealing a shoe here and there, but he is easily redirected. He’s doing great with potty training. As for the crate, he’ll bark when left alone in it so living in an apartment or condo might be problematic. But in terms of behaviors, nothing a little time and training won’t solve.
If you’re looking for a daily dose of happiness, Ritter’s your guy. Fill out an application for this popular guy today!

Looking to get a head start on your Thanksgiving feast? Look no further than Pumpkin Pie and Sweet Potato! Both girls are about 10 weeks old, doing great with potty training (they know 'go potty'), love their crates (they know 'kennel'), and get along well with their 2 older resident foster siblings.
Pumpkin Pie (ears down!) is a happy-go-lucky puppy who acts her age. When her puppy antics get to be too much for her resident siblings, she responds appropriately by backing off. Running around the backyard and playing fetch are two of Pumpkin Pie’s favorite activities.
Sweet Potato (ears up!) loves playing with her sibling Pumpkin Pie and can often be found chasing her around the yard. She's a bit timid of new people and startles easily. She would do best in a home with a fenced yard and canine sibling of her own to help teach her the world is not a scary place.
A long time ago (two weeks ago) in a galaxy far, far away (Palatine) three adorable pups landed safely with SCCR from Alabama to start their journey to forever homes! Meet adoptable Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia! The force is strong with these ones…

Meet Miss Olivia. You may recognize her from previous posts as she was adopted earlier this year but the placement didn’t work out, so she's back with SCCR! We're looking for a new, short term foster home for her. We know how much you love the dogs at SCCR and Miss Olivia could really use your help.
Miss Olivia has spent the better part of the last several weeks in her awesome foster home hiding in her crate (by choice). We'd like to see how well she'd do in a new/different environment to see if we can better understand what may be the underlying cause of this behavior. Attempt a reset, if you will. We've tried a few things already but to no avail.
Miss Olivia is a bit socially awkward and will bark when first meeting new people or dogs. But, she warms up quickly and Cheerios are her jam! If you have space in your home, and heart, to help us help this gorgeous girl, please let us know!
Thanksgiving is only two days away and is basically the Super Bowl for dogs. Food everywhere, crumbs all over the floor, all sorts of family and friends around to beg for snacks. But not all treats are created equal! Make sure you’re keeping your pups safe by only allowing them to snack on the healthy stuff. Happy feasting!!
Smart, sleek, shy, and snuggly. Meet Oller.
At two years old, Oller knows his manners. This well-behaved boy is housebroken (will nose the door to signal he needs to go), fine in his crate (though he does need a yummy treat to be coaxed in), and knows multiple commands (sit, leave it, no, walk, outside). He is still working on not pulling on walks when he sees small animals.
Oller is shy when first meeting people, especially men, but with time is sure to warm up and show his cuddly and goofy side. Once he is comfortable and knows he can trust you, Oller will happily accept belly rubs and ear scratches, and he may try to squeeze his 55-pound self into your lap.
Like a huge percentage of the human population currently, Oller has some anxieties. However, given his anxiety meds on a daily basis, he transforms into a happy, sweet boy nudging you for pets and cuddles. This playful boy loves to play fetch and tug-o-war, gets along with the resident dog in his foster home, and shows interest in meeting other dogs. If he isn’t given his medication, he is prone to resource guarding with valuable items, such as bones and toys.
Oller has so much love to give. All he needs is a patient family willing to give him the time and space he needs to warm up. If you think that Oller is right for you, fill out an application for this handsome boy today!
It’s true, we’ve got a Golden in residence! Please read his entire bio to ensure he would be a good fit for your home before applying:
My name is Tyler. I am a 5yo Golden Retriever and I weigh 94lbs. I’m at SCCR because my human got sick and had to go to a different place to live and I wasn’t allowed to go. I am hoping for a home where I can get lots of love and attention and be with my human as much as possible.
Foster Mom says I should be honest so I am going to tell you all about me — the good and the not-so-good. I am completely housebroken and will adjust to your schedule. I am good at waiting until you are ready to go for a walk or to let me into your backyard.
I am choosy about my food; Foster Mom has found a food I really like and any treats fall into my tasty food category. As for my crate, you may have to coax me into it but once I’m in it’s okay. Foster Mom puts me in there when she isn’t home and I sleep in it at night. During the day, I can nap wherever if she’s home; she even allows me on furniture.
I’m okay with other dogs but I don’t care to play. If they get too close or they try to entice me to play I will run away from them. I’m just not interested. I do love my toys and usually carry one around the house. Loud noises make me a little nervous and I admit that children are not high on my list of enjoyable humans.
I love my walks. Foster Mom is working with me on not pulling on leash. I’m learning. Oh, and I have some allergies but they seem to be under control with Apoquel. My ears take the brunt of the allergies so you may have to put drops in them from time to time. I’m used to it and won’t put up much of a fuss.
Are you a grown-up? Generous with ear scratches and belly rubs? Do you have a pantry well-stocked with yummy treats? And, most importantly, are you looking for someone to love? Look no further. I’m right here.
Shhhhh…they’re sleeping 🥰
We’ve got a lot of dogs who are looking to secure a permanent spot at your Thanksgiving table next week!
This group of pooches PLUS Wanda, Scarlett, and the artist named pups from yesterday will all be hanging out at Petsmart today from 10am-1pm. If you think you’ll have some extra turkey to spare, check out their bios and come meet them!
