Mission Objective:
We started like any normal family, in search of a loving, fuzzy family member, but in that search, we saw the horrors of bird breeding, neglect, and abuse. Every bird we saw was abused in some way. We were given a baby military macaw who had his throat burned all the way through and then sewn up with finishing line and dental floss. We scoured two states to find someone who could help save him. Finally, we found a veterinarian, Dr. Welch at the Forest Trails Animal Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma who donated his services and performed the surgery on him. He did well after the surgery, but unfortunately did not survive so we vowed to save as many exotic birds as we could.
We would love to save every abused and neglected bird but the reality is we cannot due to costs. In the first year I estimate we could save an additional 25 birds and in the second year, as many as 100 birds. I estimate that amount would double every year after that.
We will save these birds by bringing them into our organization and show them they are loved. We train them to trust people and that biting is not the answer. For cases that need medical attention, Dr. Welch has kindly agreed to provide medical attention to all of the birds that come into our rescue at reduced rates. We will train volunteers to care and nurture the birds in our ever growing flock.
Once we feel that a bird has been completely rehabilitated we go through a strict process to find them a pertinent and loving home and graduate to our new owner’s program. Birds who have been abused or neglected too long to be suitable for new homes will live out their lives in the sanctuary for people to admire their beauty, teach the community about where they come from, and how to treat wildlife.
Most of the birds in our care are at risk of losing habitat in the wild and some are even considered to be endangered.
