Humane Society of Imperial County
We believe it is important to give every adoptable orphaned pet a second chance at a long life full of unconditional love and happiness!
To better the community for both animals and people by placing as many orphaned pets in to loving forever homes, and to enhance the relationship between animals and people through education.
We have made a promise to every animal that comes into our care that no adoptable pet will ever be euthanized for time or space constraints. This means that they will remain safely in our care until they have found their furever homes. Whether through adoption or placement with our no-kill rescue partners outside of the Imperial Valley, we will do whatever it takes to give these animals every chance possible at a long life filled with unconditional love and happiness.
The Humane Society of Imperial County is the only Humane Society in the Imperial Valley. We are a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization (Tax ID# 23-7108184). We do not receive any supplemental funding from the government, state, county, or city. We operate solely, and heavily rely on the generous contributions from friends near and far.
The Humane Society of Imperial County is not affiliated, legally bound, or reports to any other shelter or pet operation. We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA, nor are we affiliated with any other local shelters or rescues.
We believe that every animal deserves a second chance in life and only you can give them that chance. Help save a life and adopt a shelter pet today!

🐾 PET OF THE WEEK 🐾
NAME: Cry Baby
ID#: C20-0039
AGE: 8 years
SEX: Male, neutered
BREED: Domestic medium-hair
COLOR: Grey/white tabby
WEIGHT: 10 pounds
FeLV/FIV/HW: Negative
Cry Baby came into our care from Brawley Animal Control back in August of 2017. Our Kitty-Cat Care Techs say that Cry Baby is a very sweet and affectionate old kitty. He is very vocal (which is how he got his name) when he wants attention or some extra food. He is very easy-going cat, and he does well with other cats and small dogs. Cry Baby loves his bed, but his favorite place to be is in someone arms, being held like a baby and having his belly rubbed. As with most of the animals in our care, we will never know why no one went looking for Cry Baby when he got lost. What we do know is that he would make the purrfect addition to any feline family looking for extra purrs and sandpaper kisses in their life.
If you would like to set up an appointment for a meet and greet with Cry Baby, please call the shelter during our business hours or email us at ivhumanesociety@gmail.com. Meet and greets are by appointment only. Cry Baby’s adoption fee is $30 for our Adopt a Senior Pet Month adoption special.
Adoption benefits include:
- Up-to-date on vaccinations
- FeLV, FIV & Heartworm tested
- Spay/Neuter
- Microchipping
- One FREE wellness check with local veterinarian.

*** UPDATE ON RILEY (a.k.a. Brawley Boy): 11-27-21, 2:30 pm ***
We apologize for the delayed update, but it has been insanely busy here at the shelter. The number of animals coming in everyday is overwhelming and it’s all hands on deck right now… Anyway, we decided to name him Riley and we think he really likes his new name! Riley came back from the vet earlier this week, but it seems his incident has taken some lasting effects on his body. We believe he is partially blind in one eye and he has difficulty using his front legs which makes standing and walking a challenge for him, BUT each day he gets up and moves around a little more than the day before. Riley has a very good appetite and we have come to find that he LOVES blankies and he LOVES having his belly rubbed! Each night before we leave, one of the care techs wraps him up in his blanket like a burrito and he falls asleep right away. He’s actually super adorable and we all love him so much already! He is a tad bit leery of new people, but we have gotten quite a few tail wags out of him. 😉 He is still on a concoction of medication for multiple things, but we believe that with time and lots of love, he is going to be just fine.
We would really like to get our Riley boy into a foster home as we strongly believe it will help with his treatment and healing process. If anyone can open up their home to this special boy, please let us know! 🙏🏼
Once again, our entire team would like to give a very heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone out there who helped us help him! Riley still has a ways to go, but he’s headed in the right direction on his road to recovery. Please continue to shower him with TONS of love and healing/pawsitive energy! 🐾❤️
We frequently get animals just like Riley coming in on a regular basis. If anyone would like to help other animals in our care who have special needs, please consider making a donation towards our #GivingTuesday fundraiser on Tuesday, November 30th. 🐾 PET OF THE WEEK 🐾
NAME: Scooby
ID#: 21-0873
AGE: 10 years
SEX: Male
BREED: Shar-Pei/Great Dane mix
COLOR: Brown
WEIGHT: 65 pounds
Scooby came into our care a few weeks ago from Imperial County Animal Control. Scooby’s owner had passed away and the family was unable to care for him. When we first saw Scooby, we thought he looked exactly like Scooby Doo. As cliché as it was, we decided to name him that. We later found out that “Scooby Doo” was his original name! We decided to keep it since it fit so well. You can’t tell by his picture, but Scooby has cataracts in both eyes and his mostly blind. It took him some time to adjust to his new surroundings, but he is getting the hang of things. He does very well with his kennel mate (so we know he would do well in a home with another dog), and he is very loving and gentle with people. For having gone through so much in such a short time, it is amazing to see that Scooby hasn’t shut down – as many seniors in his position often do. This handsome and loving boy is one of the many senior pets in our care that deserves a warm and loving furever home this holiday season.
If you would like to set up an appointment for a meet and greet with Scooby, please call the shelter during our business hours, or email us at ivhumanesociety@gmail.com. Meet and greets are by appointment only. Scooby’s adoption fee is $50 for our Adopt a Senior Pet Month adoption special.
Adoption benefits include:
- Up to date on vaccinations
- Microchipping
- Spay/Neuter
- One FREE wellness check with local veterinarian.
- One FREE grooming with Awesome Pawz in Holtville (dog only).
