Thank you @asburytulsa for donating dog and kitty food to our Pet Food Pantry! They had so many hard-working volunteers re-packaging the big bags into smaller zipper bags, so we can distribute easily.
We appreciate the help so much! #tulsa #tulsaok #tulsaoklahoma #tulsapets #petfood #thankyou

Woo hoo! Brella is unchained! Thank you to our amazing @unchainok volunteers who knocked out this fencing project in just one day, so Brella would not have to be chained/tethered 24/7 in her yard! We appreciate all of their hard work and dedication to improving the lives of chained dogs in our community.
Thank you to everyone who donated to the supplies for this project. Brella is a happy girl who now has so much room to run and play in a safe yard.

This past summer, @sophiegamand stopped in Oklahoma during her cross-country rescue road trip. She spent the day with our @unchainok team as we visited chained dogs throughout the Tulsa area. We also stopped by the home of an Unchain OK client whose pups benefited from a fence building project. Today, her two dogs are still chain free 2 years later.
We sincerely appreciate Sophie for all she is doing to spread awareness about the sad reality of constantly chained and tethered dogs. We know pictures of chained dogs are incredibly hard to see. This gig is not for the faint of heart. And there are always cries for us to "steal the dog" when we post them. There are literally thousands of chained dogs in dismal conditions across Tulsa and northeast Oklahoma that are not severe enough to warrant legal intervention. Beyond the fact it's illegal and would breed severe distrust between us and the community, stealing chained dogs is not a sustainable method of trying to help. More often than not, once a dog is removed (for whatever reason) from a situation like this, another dog takes its place on the chain - it's a vicious cycle. It can be more effective to work with the owners to provide education and find better alternatives to chaining and - at the very least - make the dogs' living conditions as comfortable as we possibly can.
Constant, unrestricted chaining is totally legal in Tulsa. We always encourage people to contact their city councilors or state representatives and push for chaining ordinances that would help combat this form of animal cruelty in our community and across the state.
We strongly encourage you to read Sophie's blog that details her trip, including her time with us, as well as some powerful pieces that were showcased at her #PitBullFlowerPower exhibit in Brooklyn. Her words are poignant, real, and brought tears to our eyes. Read her blog here: www.SophieGamand.com/blog

This handsome, but broken pup with the phenomenal ears is Riker. And he needs our help!
Earlier this week, we were contacted by Tulsa Animal Welfare to see if we would consider helping Riker and another very injured pup that we will tell you about a little later this week.
Riker came into the shelter as an injured stray, unable to walk. He could stand, but not for very long. They suspected he had been hit by a car.
Even though he was in pain, he was still so sweet with such a wonderful personality. We wanted to give him a second chance.
We got Riker to our vet where they determined Riker had a cracked femoral head, which requires an expensive FHO surgery. An FHO, or femoral head ostectomy, is a surgical procedure to ensure pain-free mobility to a damaged hip by removing the head and neck of the femur.
The surgery cost is $1,200.
We want to continue helping injured and broken animals, but the costs add up so quickly. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help with Riker’s medical bills.
Riker also needs a foster home where he can rest and recuperate. If you’re interested in giving Riker a safe space to heal, please send us a private message or email info@animalallianceok.org. #tulsa #tulsaoklahoma #tulsaok #tulsapets #rescuedog #rescuedogsofinstagram #adoptdontshop #fosteringsaveslives

YOU can help us and law enforcement catch animal abusers in Oklahoma by donating to our Anti-Cruelty Fund!
Part of OAA’s mission is to end animal cruelty. One of the ways we work toward that is by offering rewards for information in animal abuse cases in partnership with law enforcement. We had many people reach out when Sunny’s case was posted asking how they could contribute to our reward fund, which can be the spark some cases need to catch the abusers. OAA can’t offer the rewards without donations to our anti-cruelty program.
In just the past few years, our rewards have aided law enforcement in multiple investigations in Tulsa (like in the case of Sunny) and across the state.
This week, the individual responsible for throwing a box of puppies into a river in Delaware County last fall was charged with felony animal abuse. OAA posted a reward for information and – thankfully – someone came forward. This fund also covered the cost of the necropsies to determine cause of death. The person responsible will now pay for that heinous crime.
Our “No Excuse for Animal Abuse” anti-cruelty fund also pays for necropsies to determine cause of death, veterinary evaluations and treatment of abuse-related injuries, CLEET-certified training for law enforcement officers, supplies needed in cruelty investigations and more.
We truly appreciate our law enforcement partners that work with us to bring animal abusers to justice. In most cases, animal abuse is just the tip of the iceberg and is considered an indicator crime or future abuse toward people. #noexcuseforanimalabuse #tulsa #tulsaok #tulsaoklahoma #tulsapets #animaladvocates

FACTS ABOUT PIT BULLS
Pit bulls and pit bull mixes are the most prevalent type of dog entering shelters across America.
🐾 Shelters in large cities across the nation report a “pit bull” population of anywhere from 40% to 60%. The national average being 33%. 🐾 Studies estimate that up to 1 million pit bulls and pit bull mixes are euthanized per year or 2,800 per day. 🐾 A study by Animal People reports a 93% euthanasia rate for pit bulls and only 1 in 600. 🐾 Pit bulls finding a forever home. That is correct: 1 in 600! 🐾 Pit bulls are the most abused, misused and killed type of dog in the U.S. today.
The euthanasia estimates above don’t include the misery and deaths these dogs face as the #1 dog-fighting breed. Dogs that don’t die fighting in the ring often suffer excruciating abuse, neglect, abandonment and eventually death, even worse than humane euthanasia.
The problem is that there are too many pit bulls and not enough homes and people willing to adopt them. Stereotypes, breed-specific legislation and laws, irresponsible owners and breeders cause these dogs the ultimate price – their lives! #spayandneuter #adoptdontshop #pitbull #pitbullsofinstagram #pitbulllove #pitbullflowerpower

The numbers are in ... and we can confirm what we suspected! Woofstock 2021 was one of the largest EVER!
We still have a few rescues that are working on processing all of their adoption applications, but we know:
🐶 71 dogs were adopted
🐱 5 kitties were adopted
🐰 2 rabbits were adopted
With 3 rescues still working on their applications, we think it's probably fairly safe to say that we will have had 80+ pets adopted this year from Woofstock!
Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event a HUGE success! We seriously can't wait until Woofstock 2022! Until then, peace, love and pets!

This morning a Good Samaritan called our office and asked for some supplies to try and help a dog that she had seen hanging around her workplace for a few weeks. She’d seen the poor dog get skinnier and skinnier.
OAA team members went to deliver the supplies and see the dog, but realized the scared pup would need to be humanely trapped.
An OAA trapper went and got Miss Melody this afternoon. She was so hungry and thirsty.
We discovered Melody (her actual name) was microchipped! However, we haven’t been able to get in touch with the owner and the listed address is in Mississippi. If you recognize this pup or know her owner, please text us at 918-917-9687.
Melody has lots of fleas and worms. We are awaiting her heartworm results, but one thing we do know is that Melody will need lots of good groceries! She’s at our vet tonight being treated for all the bugs. #tulsa #tulsapets #tulsaok #tulsaoklahoma
