The Little Red Dog, Inc
We are a 501 c3 Non Profit dedicated to saving animal lives, education and animal welfare. We rely on donations to feed and care for the animals we save.
Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way
around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red
American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar
with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies because she had the audacity to not to want
to fight.
The Little Red Dog fights for all the dogs, red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's
because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our
primary goal is to get them into loving homes. Our hope that some day all of
them make it out, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and
many others who did not.

Going to bed tonight with so much gratitude for this team that keeps TLRD running.
Did you know? TLRD is run entirely by volunteers (although that’s something we’d like to change in 2022).
I (MacKenzie) can’t tell you how many days a year I think to myself “I have to do this. No matter how exhausted I am, it’s my family. But why do THEY keep showing up? I don’t get it. No one is making them do any of this and this sh*t sucks 99% of the time.”
Well, they show up every day because they have the biggest hearts ever (and they’re better than me 😉). We’ve also become a giant family who sacrifices so much for each other, because at the end of the day, it’s all for the dogs.
December is our biggest and craziest month of the year as a dog rescue. More adoptions. More saving. More obstacles. More fundraising. It feels like we’re about to run a marathon together and we’ve been training for it all year. It’s nerve-racking, yet so exciting to see what we’re about to accomplish together.
I’m just so grateful to be doing it all alongside incredible people who inspire us every day, including you.
Pictured are just a few of the peeps who volunteer their time, resources, and talent every single day to help TLRD save lives. I wish I could post every single one of you, but let’s be real, most of you won’t let me take your picture! 😂😉
Just want to say thank you…
❤️ to our senior team of volunteers (Melinda, Carlo, Joanna, Brianna, Monique, Sean, Ann, Bridgette, Gary, Kristin, and their partners 😉)
❤️ to our fabulous foster squad
❤️ to our dog walkers
❤️ to our transporters
❤️ to our vet partners
Who definitely aren’t thanked enough, but still choose to show up every day for the dogs and cats who need us.
Now let’s do this thang we call Home for the Holidays ❤️
Oh and shoutout to my parents and our co-founders, PJ & Steve, who have dedicated the past 10 years to leading TLRD 🙌 I started this post speaking on behalf of the three of us but then kinda hijacked it…😘
Okay for real, LET’S DO THIS THANG!!!!!! See you all tomorrow!
11/29/2021
Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday, a global opportunity to come together and support causes close to your heart. It's also a big day for TLRD–we're launching Home for the Holidays 2021.
So before the mayhem ensues, we wanted to share something sweet with you about the impact of last year's Giving Tuesday. Pixie’s rescue story…
Last December, we got a call about Pixie and her 4 puppies who were found on the streets of Mexico, barely hanging on to life. Pixie was extremely underweight, producing little milk, filthy, exhausted and covered in ticks.
Carlo & Sara, Joanna, and Sara S. stepped up to foster this family and nurse them back to health. The donations from this community during Giving Tuesday and Home for the Holidays allowed us to provide medical care, extra food, and supplies.
Pixie spent a few weeks breaking out of her shell, gaining weight, and adjusting to living in a home until she was ready for her forever home.
Almost a year later, Pixie (now Baisley) is a healthy, happy dog living it up with her forever family, the Tedeschi’s and learning how to be a dog for the first time ever. So grateful for your big hearts, Tedeschi fam! ❤️
👇👇👇
The thing about dog rescue is, we’re never planning on saving a mom and puppies. We’re never given a few weeks (or even days) to figure things out. We have to act fast, and your generosity–whether it’s stepping up to foster, donating what you can, sharing adoptable dogs, or liking our posts–before we find out about the next dog, allows us to make it happen.
✨ So whether you support us tomorrow, this Holiday season, or any time of year…thank you for allowing TLRD to act fast when a dog needs us. More importantly, thank you for helping us save dogs like Pixie and her puppies who require extra resources, time and funding.
You are what makes TLRD stand out and we could not be more grateful to launch another bold (and scary!) mission with you all tomorrow. Let’s save some lives together and bring dogs like Pixie HOME for the Holidays! 🎄🐶❤️
11/25/2021
Because of you, over 400 lives have been saved this year. You’re also the reason Steve and PJ, our co-founders, are still happily married after 10 years of dog rescue together. We couldn’t do it without you, your generosity, and commitment.
We hope this gives you a good laugh! From our family to yours, thank you for being a part of The Little Red Dog. We are so grateful ❤️

Swipe 👉 to see what the power of your support can do!
Last December, Grant Hart sat behind shelter bars wondering if he was going to spend his second Christmas there. Yep, he had been there for almost 2 years with the possibility of being euthanized at any minute.
Thanks to people like you who supported our Home for the Holidays campaign last year, we were able to break Grant outta there just in time for Christmas!
Two months later and Grant found his forever home with the Medrano family 🥰 where he’s been living it UP the past year just as he deserves!
“We call him Graham now, short for Graham cracker. He naps whenever and wherever possible and doesn’t care that he snores the loudest lol! He loves walks to the park nearby and any chance he gets to be in the car. He really is the sweetest, gentlest dog with the biggest goofy personality.” - JoAnn, forever mama
And to think these moments almost weren’t made possible…
Thank you for helping us save dogs like Grant and giving them a second chance to find their forever families. We can’t do it without all of you and this community working together. We are just so so grateful! ❤️

Greetings from Flash Gordon!🏜
Is Flash not the most handsome adventure pup you’ve ever seen?! It’s the boots for me 😉
If you’re looking for a super cool dog to take on adventures, hikes, and camping trips, Flash is your guy! He’s been on lots of trips with his wonderful foster fam and he’s so ready to start making those memories with his forever family.
Flash is a 1.5-year-old AmStaff who weighs about 79 pounds. He’s house trained, good with other dogs and older kids. He’s a super happy boy who’s impossible to resist once you see him. Seriously, pics don’t do Flash justice!
When people see him in person they’re like 🤯🤯🤯
Fun fact: his foster mama had a hard time finding booties that fit him right cause his front paws are like bear paws and his back paws itty bitty 🤣
Let’s find Flash a forever home for the holidays 🎄 If you’re interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website thelittlereddog.org or click the link in our bio to get started ❤️

Mornin’ from 6 of mama Ember’s puppies!🤩
If you supported our 10th birthday fundraiser in October in any way, take a moment to celebrate your impact ✨ Ember and her puppies are safe and going to live wonderful lives because of you! Thank you for helping us save them!
Swipe through to see this beautiful family 😍👉 Mama Ember (who has this gorgeous cinnamon/tan/red brindle), Pie, Cider, Bones, Clove, Crisp and Pecan are all available for adoption.
Mama is about 2 years old and 44 pounds. Pups are about 11 weeks old and probably going to be around 50 pounds. They’re definitely mixed with some Husky!
If you’re interested in Ember or any of the pups, please fill out an adoption application through the link in our bio or thelittlereddog.org ❤️

Oh Bogey, we are so proud of you! ❤️🥲
In just 2 weeks, he’s already made such a transformation and that’s all thanks to his wonderful foster, Jenn @foster_fam_92673 🙌
Yes, Bogey’s story and start to life is heartbreaking. However, because of this community, Bogey is well on his way to a better life.
Thank you Jenn for opening your heart and home to this sweet boy! ❤️👏 The baths, emotion, patience…it’s a lot. Your compassion and grit is an inspiration! We’re so grateful for you.
And thank YOU (yes, you reading this!) for your continued support so we can say “yes” to saving dogs like Bogey. It seriously takes all of us working together however we can. We’re beyond grateful for it all and can’t wait to show you Bogey’s full transformation!

How it started vs. How it’s going: rescue dog edition 😍
"We love Josie so much and cannot imagine our lives without her." - Cruz family
Can you imagine if Josie or the Cruz family didn't have each other?
That came super close to happening, but the support from you and this community last year made sure Josie found her forever family.
Last December, we got a call about mama Josie (previously Jovie) who was found feral with her four puppies. This little family was extremely nervous and needed urgent help before something bad happened. Thankfully, this community made it possible.
🏡 Four families stepped up to foster: the Engel (@mommaengel), Hughes (@foster_fam_92672), Witt (@loverofallmutts), and Ybarra (@trigsmum) families opened their homes and patiently helped these dogs break out of their shells
🙌 You all pitched in what you could to help cover their vet exams, microchips, spay/neuters, vaccinations, fecal tests, food and supplies
Josie and her puppies could've been euthanized in a shelter, hit by a car, or taken by humans with bad intentions. Instead, you gave them a better life.
The puppies were adopted pretty quickly and after lots of TLC from her foster @mommaengel, Josie slowly broke out of her shell and found her forever family in March. Not only did Josie's life drastically change for the better, the Cruz family now can't imagine life without her.
✨ “We feel like our family is finally complete now that we have Josie. We call her our third child."
For humans and dogs, life can change so quickly. We are so grateful to be changing two-legged and four-legged lives for the better with you. Thank you for being a part of the TLRD community. We look forward to making more of these moments happen with you this Holiday season! ❤️

Swooooooning over this photoshoot of LAVERNE 🌸😍
Laverne joined us last week! She was dumped with Shirley in a shelter night-drop, and just like Shirley, this poor girl was in need of immediate medical attention. We were able to save them both and thanks to our friends at CARES, Laverne & Shirley received the care they needed for vaginal prolapse, spays, dentals and lots more.
Big shoutout to Yas who stepped up to foster Laverne, despite her extra medical needs, and snapped these adorrrrrable photos! 🥰 Laverne is doing great, settling in nicely to her new foster home, eating well and a total sweetie pie. When she first got to @yawesome’s, she was dragging her back left leg, but that is no longer the case and she can touch her toes to the ground!
In fact…Laverne’s doing TOO well 🤣 She needs to be on crate rest while she heals and lil miss thang thinks she’s ready to run around! Soon baby girl soooonnnnnn!
She’s about 39 pounds, 4 years old, good with other dogs and older kids. If you’d like to meet miss Laverne, please fill out an adoption application on our website thelittlereddog.org or click the link in our bio!
Thank you to everyone who continues to support our mission so we can urgently save dogs like Laverne & Shirley and provide second chances. Can’t do it without ya! ❤️

Woohoooooo! Churro found his forever family! 🎉
Thank you to the Gallagher family for adopting this sweet boy ❤️, the Bauhofer family for stepping up to foster him, and thank you to everyone who supported our birthday fundraiser in October so we could save Churro!
Swipe to see Churro the day we saved him 😢 Such a transformation! For those who missed it, Churro was dumped at the shelter and became gravely ill. After saving him, our vet was worried he wouldn’t make it through the weekend, but he said noooo way Jose 💪 Churro slowly but surely started to gain weight and turn back into a healthy puppy!
We are so happy for Churro and so grateful to all of YOU who help us save dogs that have a harder time making it out of the shelter alive. We are on a mission from Dog!

Meet Bogey ❤️
Bogey deserved so much better in his young life...and now because of this community, he is totally going to get it.
He was recently dropped off at a shelter, the owner said to put him down, all because he had demodex mange, a treatable (and not transmissible) skin condition. At just 5 months old, thrown away like trash. No dog deserves that.
That's why we exist - to scoop these pups up, keep them safe, and ensure they get the life they deserve.
One of our excellent vets and an outstanding foster (thank you Jenn! @foster_fam_92673) have stepped up to help Bogey. He currently gets 3 treated baths each week, lots of patience and TLC.
His foster mama, Jenn said “I cried like a baby giving this sweet boy his bath today. Heartbreaking. Then I threw a towel on him, even over his face (it was bleeding on the top of his nose) and just patted him. He leaned his face to me in so hard and we and we just hugged and loved. I just sobbed like a baby! 🤣💔 And such a personality. I swear he knows what I am saying.”
Rescue is the emotional roller coaster of a lifetime, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank you for supporting us so we can give dogs like Bogey the second chance they deserve.
We can’t wait to show you Bogey’s glow up!✨

We couldn't have saved Lucus Jones without you…
On December 1st of last year, we got a call from the shelter about a young pup who came in critically injured and struggling to use his back legs. They told us he was going to be euthanized in the next few hours if he wasn't pulled by a rescue because they were full and Lucus was in a lot of pain.
Thankfully, we had just launched our annual Home for the Holidays campaign and because of your generosity, we saved Lucus with just minutes to spare.
Our entire community was in tears over his freedom video (second slide). He came hobbling out of those shelter doors and it was as if he knew he was getting a second chance.
One year and lots of vet care later, Lucus Jones is a healthy, happy boy living the life he deserves with his forever mama, Molly.
✨”He is doing great. Happy healthy and loved. We were meant for each other. He loves walks, playing ball, treats, the beach, camping and friends and family.
He has brought so much love into our home.”✨
Not only does your continued support make it possible for us to save medical dogs like Lucus Jones, but you're changing the lives of their forever families too.
It doesn't get any better than that.
Thank you for helping us provide second chances. We look forward to saving more lives together this holiday season and sharing more happy endings!
