We are an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working collaboratively with the Town of Westerly to take in unwanted or surrendered pets in the community.

To build a state-of-the-art animal shelter, adoption center and regional outreach facility to promote the health and welfare of abandoned or lost pets and to educate and assist those who care for them.

Stand Up For Animals (SUFA) raised the funds to build a new animal shelter to replace the Town of Westerly's aging shelter. A collaborative effort with the Town of Westerly whereby SUFA entered into a $1 a year, 99-year lease while the Town of Westerly covers the ongoing maintenance, utilities, and employs one animal control officer and one shelter manager. SUFA has a Board of Trustees and employs one office manager.
