Best Friends Animal Society - Wild Friends
Please do not post on this page regarding WILDLIFE EMERGENCIES (sick, injured or orphaned wildlife). PLEASE CALL US at 435-644-2001 x4460 or call your local wildlife rehabilitator.
The mission of Best Friends is to bring about a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. We do this by demonstrating and promoting exemplary animal care and building community programs and partnerships.
While the number of dogs and cats being killed in shelters has been reduced significantly since Best Friends began its work 27 years ago—there is still much more work to do. The next phase of the No More Homeless Pets mission will be to bring the number down to essentially zero. But getting there will take innovative efforts from within the animal welfare world and more importantly, the commitment and dedication of everyone who has a pet or cares about animals. By supporting our mission, you’re helping to save the lives of millions of homeless pets.
Is there anything more magnificent than a bird flying free again?
That's what it's all about here on the "wild side" of the sanctuary. At Best Friends' Wild Friends, we have a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitation program to help injured wild animals return to lives of freedom. We also have a state and federally licensed program providing lifetime care for wildlife unable to return to the wild. And, of course, we rescue domestic birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, too.

After adopting Foxi from Best Friends, one of Dottie’s neighbors made a comment about how Foxi would be a perfect fit for a pet therapy program because of how quiet and friendly she was to everyone. Well, that neighbor was spot on, and it wasn’t long after that Foxi and Dottie were interviewed and recruited into a therapy program!
For almost three years, both Dottie and Foxi put on their uniforms and volunteered every Wednesday at their local hospital, bringing joy and comfort to patients in need. Through visiting with patients and providing the comfort of touch, Foxi was able to increase the patient's relaxation and help with their healing. According to Dottie, she often heard people say that Foxi made their day. But it wasn’t just the patients and Dottie who benefited— Foxi did too! She LOVES soaking up all of the attention and pets.
In their time together, Foxi and Dottie have spread happiness to over 450 patients! Although the program is temporarily paused due to COVID, both Foxi and Dottie cannot wait to get back to work making a difference.
This #GivingTuesday, you can help pets like Foxi find healing, hope and the lifesaving chance they need by making a donation… There’s still plenty of time! ❤ #SaveThemAll

Dingo was rescued from a dogfighting bust before coming to the Sanctuary. The years haven’t been kind to him— his body is marked with scars, and he needs continuing treatment for health issues related to his past. 😢
Yet Dingo’s approach to life is one of pure playfulness and joy. 💞 He’s so lighthearted and fun that he makes everyone around him happy. He’s a shining example of what it looks like to overcome adversity and live life to its fullest potential — even if things aren’t 100% perfect.
This #GivingTuesday, you can help pets like Dingo find healing, hope and the lifesaving chance they need. And perhaps the best part — your generosity will go twice as far because every gift is MATCHED! Donate today via the link in our bio. 💝 #SaveThemAll

Newborn kittens stuck in a storm drain during a rainstorm? 🙀 Beyond terrifying!
Yet this nightmare was the reality for Tempo, Cora, and Wild until a first responder arrived at the scene! Despite having to practically crawl inside the drain (while a Good Samaritan held onto his feet for dear life!), the animal control officer was able to save all three kittens from the dangerous situation. 😻👏
When our team in Salt Lake City heard what these sweet kittens had gone through, they rushed to help— and within hours, Amanda was en-route to pick the kittens up to foster! 🚗 She knew that they would require around-the-clock care and bottle feeding, but was not deterred. Once home, and after a much-needed bath, they started on their journey to recovery. The kittens were extremely dirty with gunk in their noses and eyes, and sores on their paws, but thanks to Amanda and their second long-term foster Stephanie, they are thriving in their new adoptive homes! 💞
The feline trio may have started off life in the sewer, but thanks to supporters like YOU, they soon got the second chance they deserve. Be a part of the lifesaving magic this #GivingTuesday via the link in our bio! ❤️

It's not just cats and dogs that come to our Sanctuary in need of a helping hand!
When a single baby duckling (whose family did not make it 😢) came to @bfas_wildlife in need of care, we were worried he would become imprinted, which means he’d get attached to humans — which is bad if you’re wild. So, we put mirrors in his enclosure and wore a mask while feeding him. Fate would have it, however, that just a few days later, nine more ducklings who’d lost their mom came to us.
Together, we had no fear of them imprinting on us, and when we released them, they swarmed away without looking back. 😻
Your gift today ensures that animals in need get the second chance they deserve. Together, let's make it a joyous holiday season for the animals! #SaveThemAll

Abandoned by their family when they moved, Southeast and his sister were picked up in Arizona by local animal control. But Southeast soon proved himself an adept escape artist, and one night, he succeeded. 🙀 Southie dug under the fence after staffers made their evening check, and he slipped out into the darkness, his sister following behind him. 😨
The next morning, a woman walking a dog spotted Southie, stranded up on a cliff by himself with no one else around. She contacted Best Friends for help, and our Dogtown staff leaped into action. Although he was scared at first, Southie was quick to trust our gentle staffers, who he followed down the slippery cliffside and into the car.
After a month of trying to track down Southie’s missing sister, she was finally caught in a humane trap and brought to the Sanctuary, as well. We named her Northwest. Happily reunited, the two dogs are now looking forward to their next big (supervised) adventure: getting adopted!
Your gift today ensures that pets like Southie and his sister get the second chance they deserve. Together, let's make it a joyous holiday season for homeless dogs and cats around the country! #SaveThemAll
