City of Thunder Bay Animal Services

Your Animal Services Centre:
*Provides shelter, feeding, care for stray and homeless pets
*Provides adoption services for stray and homeless pets
*Enforces all by-laws relating to animals
*Promotes responsible pet ownership through education

The City's Animal Services Centre located on Alloy Place is a municipally funded animal shelter. Their primary function is to protect the public from aggressive domestic dogs and cats through the enforcement of the City's by-laws. In addition, they operate the City pound for the safe keeping of stray (lost) dogs and cats and provide adoption services.

In Thunder Bay, all pet owners must license their dogs and cats within 14 days of ownership. Licences must be kept on your pet at all times, to enable us to reunite you with your lost pet. We'll even give your pet a free ride home the first time.

Thunder Bay's well-behaved canines and their owners can enjoy either of the City's Off-Leash Dog Parks. The off-leash dog areas are free of charge. Dogs must be over four months old and have a current City licence and rabies vaccination to use the park. The Animal Services By-law Officers do not have any authority to patrol these Parks.

Animal Services will accept youth volunteers between the ages of 14-18 who are getting their volunteer hours. Youth who are interested in volunteering and are under the age of 14 should contact the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society located on Rosslyn Road at (807) 475-8803.
