To improve the lives of pets and people through sustainable programs of adoptions, spay/neutering, and education.
SoHumane is a registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to the humane treatment of companion animals in Medford, Oregon, and beyond. Mae Richardson founded the Humane Society of Jackson County in 1928 as an all-volunteer organization that initially provided services for displaced dogs and horses.
Today, SoHumane.org, a no-kill shelter, provides quality care for dogs and cats while working to make a difference in the pet overpopulation problem. Annually, SoHumane serves 1,400 companion animals on average. In 2012, we successfully adopted out 1,338 animals, spayed or neutered 600 animals, and saved 700 animals from euthanasia at other shelters through the “Saving Train” program.
Our strategic areas of focus are to provide shelter and adoption services for displaced pets while reducing pet overpopulation through spay/neutering. SoHumane provides humane education opportunities for people of all ages throughout the community. Additionally, we currently educate more than 1,000 children in our local schools each year via programs that foster compassion for all living things.
Saving Train: SoHumane rescues animals from shelters where they have already been marked for death. These are healthy, adoptable animals who have been overlooked and have run out of time at overcrowded public facilities.
Senior Pets: We know that senior animals (those seven years of age and older) are among the first to be euthanized in many shelters that have an abundant supply of young energetic pets. We believe every animal — no matter their age — deserves a second chance.
Medical Needs: By addressing treatable medical conditions, we remove one of the biggest barriers to adoption and increase the number of animals who find new homes.

A couple of our long term kitties, Jennings and Magnolia found their homes❤️

A quick spotlight on a few of our older, considered ‘senior’ cats😸
Older cats have the hardest time being adopted but they have lots of life and love left to give😻
Consider giving one of these sweethearts their retirement home this weekend (Nov 13 & 14) during our Meows & Whiskers Weekend😸 you’ll have a chance to ‘Spin the Wheel’ and earn a prize or discount on your adult cat adoption!!
✨
We have Tiger, a handsome man at the age of 7. He loves naps, talking with his human friends, head scratches, and lots of love and cuddles❤️ Tiger would love to hang out on someone’s couch with them watching tv!
✨
Fili (short for Ophelia🤩) is an 8year old lady who loves comfy beds, chin scratches, and the occasional romp with a rope toy! Sometimes she wants her own space and nap time alone and that’s okay! We all need alone time sometimes☺️
✨
Bella is an 11 year old lady who claims herself as a Queen👑 Bella is currently in foster and she has blossomed in a home setting! She loves playing with feather toys and napping on her person in between playtimes. Bella is a huge cuddle bug full of snores and purrs🥰

Happy Caturday! We would love to showcase some teenage kitties that will be a part of our Meows & Whiskers weekend this upcoming 13th and 14th😻
First off, we have sweet Paloma❤️ she started off quite shy, but is coming out of her shell amazingly! She does best with another kitty who can help boost her confidence😼 she loves cuddling and napping with her best bud Doc!
Next up is Doc😸 Doc is an adventurous little guy who loves to explore the floor of our kitten room and chase toys of various sorts. When he’s not playing, Doc enjoys a nice treat and nap time.
Neville and Luna are a bonded pair filled with double the fun and love😽 both can be a bit shy to start off, but open up fairly quickly, especially with the other by their side. They are partners in crime (the crime being stealing your heart) and do best with each other❤️
So come down next weekend and spin the wheel and take one of these sweet babies home😻😸

Adult cats are often overlooked, and before the holidays is a perfect time to adopt. On November 13 and 14 you can ‘Spin the Wheel’ to see which reduced adoption fee you will receive when adopting an adult cat (seven months or older). No matter where the wheel lands, everyone is a winner! The first 15 adopted cats will also go home with a special goodie bag and a coupon for a Little Caesars large pizza. Available cats can be viewed online at www.sohumane.org/cats. 😻
If now isn't the right time to bring a new pet into your family, please consider making a donation to SoHumane. Your gift will allow us to save more lives! Every cat or dog adopted opens the door for another homeless pet that can be saved.

Are you looking for a new roommate? Missy has good renter history, is clean, and not very disruptive!😇
This 6 year old lady knows what she wants and when she wants it. She would do best as an only pet, in a lower traffic adult only home. If she sounds like what you’re looking for, come visit us and check her out!

Busy, busy week here at SoHumane! 23 dogs and cats found forever homes this week. While the week isn't quite over yet we wanted to highlight some special adoptions that happened!
Featured are Pixie, Lloyd, and Floyd each eagerly jumping into their families car as soon their adoption was completed.
Pixi found a home where she'll get plenty of one-on-one attention and might even go to work with her new dad!
Floyd went home with fellow SoHumane alumni Baya.
While Lloyd has a new playmate to romp around in the yard.
Nothing makes our hearts melt more than seeing these sweet dogs and cats go home. Congrats to all the families who adopted this week! ❤❤❤

Meet this awesome group of four at SoHumane!
General knows basic commands, walks nicely on the leash and is super eager to please. He plays well with respectful, gentle dogs. Offer General lots of belly rubs and a spot on the couch, and he’s all yours.
Handsome Kai enjoys going on walks, riding in the car, laying in the sun and playing with his doggy friends. His happy snorting noises will make you laugh. A smart fellow, Kai would love a home with a fully fenced in back yard for playtime.
Charming Lloyd is outgoing and friendly with everyone he meets. He has fun running, playing and going for walks. A transplant from Texas, Lloyd is ready for his forever home and family.
Pixi is an active playful girl who loves everyone she meets. She is happy receiving treats, giving kisses, playing fetch and cuddling. With continued training Pixi will be an awesome doggy companion.
