Worthy Dog Rescue
Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs in distress, especially those living on chains, in pens, or in neglectful and abusive situations.
Our mission is to provide a better life for abused and neglected dogs, while working to address the root problems of animal overpopulation and improve animal welfare. We do this through community outreach and by supporting and educating dog owners in underserved communities, by sponsoring spay and neuter programs, and by rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in need.

Today is #GivingTuesday!!!
We hope you will consider a donation to Worthy Dog Rescue to help us continue our mission of rescuing dogs in distress, especially those living outdoors on chains, in pens, or abandoned by their owners. Many of the dogs we take in require extensive medical care, training, and rehabilitation. It's only through your support that we can save these forgotten dogs and give them the life they deserve.
Would you join us and help us reach our goal? Whether you give $5 or $500, as an all-volunteer nonprofit, every dollar raised goes towards saving the lives of these dogs who need us the most.

This holiday season we are thankful for all the happy endings that are made possible by our rescue community. To every adopter, foster, screener, home visit volunteer, transport driver, and the members of our community who donate and share their stories to help find our pups the very best homes — thank you! You've changed the lives of some incredibly worthy dogs like Dexter.
Dexter spent many years on a chain, isolated and ignored. He never knew the love of family or the comforts of home. Through rescue, not only did he get the best parents, now he's discovered the joy of pup companionship. In his foster home, Dexter was always respectful to other dogs but not deeply connected. That all changed in his new home with Cher, a fellow rescue Pittie who taught him how to be a dog.
Even though Cher is younger, she is maternal towards him, and is his teacher and mentor. It took about three months for Dexter to fully connect with Cher, but he loves her now and takes all his cues from her, socially and otherwise. The duo recently completed training together, and mom, Laci, reports that "Dexter did great! He's a better student than Cher. She does the bare minimum to get the reward, and he enthusiastically complies!"
May your season be filled with family, friends, awesome dogs and great food!

We know you love your dogs and the temptation is real to slip them some goodies from your holiday meal. Be careful! There are many foods we eat that are dangerous for dogs and every Thanksgiving veterinarians see a spike in food-related illnesses.
Check out these foods to avoid.....
Accidents happen. If you feel your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, you can call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435.
The Worthy Dog Team wishes everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s getting cold outside, and the holidays are coming! It’s a perfect time to refresh your Worthy Dog winter gear with some new styles and colors. We are only running this campaign for 9 days to ensure plenty of time to get your items before Christmas. >>Link in bio<<
All of the items featured are high quality and offer UNISEX sizing. We’re bringing back the very popular and super-soft sponge fleece sweatshirts from Bella & Canvas, which offer a more streamlined or modern fit in both crewneck and hoodie options. The deep heather crewneck and navy hoodie both offer kids’ sizing.
We’ve also included a premium and fashionable option this year, the Champion Reverse Weave, which has an oversized fit. These sweatshirts are super durable, great looking, and wash and wear very well.
We’ve kept these prices as low as possible so that everyone can show their support for dog rescue. These make excellent gifts for friends, family, or your Secret Santa. Expected delivery by 12/17.
Worthy Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue. All proceeds and donations go directly to help the pups in our care. Thank you!

AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Porter has been in his foster home for a week+ now and is proving to be a fantastic dog. He listens well and is eager to please, is very affectionate, and is full of puppy sweetness. Porter just wants to spend time with you and loves to sit in your lap and get belly rubs. He is gentle and respectful and not mouthy like most puppies. He has done well with every dog he meets and likes to play with those who want to, but he's also respectful with older dogs. He has more of a submissive nature, so we think he will be great with kids and make an excellent family dog. We are looking for a fun, loving family with another playful pup in the home for Porter. Cats are fine too.
Porter is currently being fostered with another dog and cat in Arlington, VA.

PUPDATE! Jamie was rescued just hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized in a rural shelter. Jamie was sick and emaciated at the shelter, so adoption was highly unlikely, but luckily for him, one of our veteran foster moms, Laine, saw a plea on social media and offered to foster him. Her voice and commitment changed the course of Jamie’s life.
The day after we took him in, Jamie broke out with Parvo, a contagious viral infection with a high mortality rate if left untreated. After two nights in the ER and a few weeks of TLC, Jamie is back on track and settling into his foster home with Laine, Gary, and their pack of three pups, who are all foster veterans.
Jamie is only about a year old, and he’s a very friendly, social dog who is open to all people and other dogs. He still has some puppy ways and can be a little mouthy and jumpy when he first meets you, but he’s learning the rules and has been making great strides.
Jamie still needs to gain some weight and a little more recovery time. He will going back to the vet to check out a heart murmur and get a full examination before he makes his way to N. Va in Dec.

Meet Bruno! This handsome Shepherd boy was rescued by one of our best foster dads, Bryan, who is friends with Bruno’s prior owner. Bryan has been fostering Bruno for 7 months and he has proven to be a loving, loyal, and energetic dog who is very connected to his human. He loves to play and really enjoys the company of other dogs. However, he lacks some natural confidence and gets anxious about new things, and we’ve found he does better and is more confident with a dog buddy by his side.
Bruno has been through formal training with our partners Blue Ridge Canine, and Bryan has continued to work on his basic obedience skills and to be calm when it’s walk time or time to go out. Bruno needs an owner willing to work with him and continue his training to build a strong relationship and trust.
We are looking for a seasoned dog owner for Bruno, preferably someone with GSD experience. The ideal home for Bruno would be in a quiet area with lots of space to run around and another social, active dog. He’s not a fan of being alone and would benefit from a flexible schedule. He’s never destructive but needs someone who has time to dedicate to him.

Meet Spanky. This dapper little guy is being fostered with three other small dogs and cats and gets along well with everyone. He's not a big player but does enjoy pup companionship. His foster mom, Linda, describes him as one of the sweetest dogs she's ever fostered and says he's a laid-back, confident, and a snuggly little guy who quickly connects to his person. He follows Linda around the house and likes to be picked up — he will look at you longingly with expectations to be held. He loves to sit in your lap and gets excited when visitors drop by. He may bark at first but is fine with company once they settle in.
Spanky is crate trained and goes into the crate without issue or whining. Technically, he is house trained and knows how to use the doggy door, but will occasionally mark...typically after he eats. He's only been in his foster home two weeks, so that could subside,# and this is not uncommon behavior in male Chihuahuas. You can use a belly band to curb the behavior, but we have already seen some improvement.
If you are looking for an adorable, affectionate, loyal companion who gets along with everyone and will love you unconditionally, Spanky is your pup.

Meet Rory!!! This adorable little nugget with the gorgeous brindle coat just arrived over the weekend and is settling into her new foster home. She’s being fostered with WDR alum Jake and has lived with kitties too. She’s a very snuggly and affectionate pup who loves her humans but also enjoys the company of other animals. She loves to romp and play and would benefit from another established, confident dog in her new home.
Rory is still a young pup, around 8-9 months old, and is gaining more confidence every day with exposure to new things. She has excellent house manners and is both housetrained and crate trained, is working on her leash skills, and is close to mastering the “sit” command.
