Cuddly Canines Rescue - Southern California

Cuddly Canines is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing pregnant dogs, nursing moms, or orphaned bottle babies from high-kill shelters.

Saving one dog may not make a difference to the world, but it makes a world of difference to that one dog.

Cuddly Canines Rescue was started in 1999 with one dog!
Like so many people, until we actually went into a shelter, we were clueless about the dog over-population issue that was (and is) facing our local animal shelters. We were shocked when we found out how high the euthanasia rate was, mostly due to overcrowding. So we saved a dog........and the first dog we saved turned out to be a hermaphrodite (yep, a true he-she dog), which was discovered only when the shelter sent the dog to the clinic for spay-neuter. They informed us of the problem & told us they couldn't deal with such an issue, and we should not to waste time on such a dog. Needless to say, we didn't listen to them & thankfully, our own vet was able to figure out the "plumbing" of the dog & we adopted him into a wonderful forever home! That was the beginning of this adventure & pretty much set the tone for Cuddly Canines. It's been a wild ride ever since.......we have unfortunately seen & heard everything, yet we have never waivered in our mission to make a difference in the lives of our canine companions! We began saving pregnant moms & unweaned litters about 11 years ago, when we actually got behind closed doors at the shelters & saw how many unwanted families were slated for euthanasia. The shelters simply didn't have the space or resources (and still don't) to deal with such issues, so euthanasia was the only answer to a growing problem. We have grown quite a bit over the years, yet we still have a close family feel among our volunteers and foster homes. Quite simply, we have the best team in the world, with each & every person dedicated to the love & care of our cuddlies. We are 100% foster-home based, and our dogs & pups get the best care possible because each foster home treats them like their own, and our wonderful vets are very caring & compassionate about the care they give. It's not about saving all of them; it's about taking care of & finding wonderful homes for the ones we DO save.
