Southwest Harbor Animal Welfare Inc

Our shelter is a clean, loving safe haven for injured and unwanted animals serving Moutn Desert Island, Hancock County and beyond

This farm perched on the ridge overlooking Southwest Harbor, provides 24/7 care for stray, abandoned and injured cats and dogs. Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment, free of charge, to homeless animals, return them to glowing health and place them in a loving, forever home.
This not-for-profit, 501 (3)(C), state-licensed shelter has been in operation for 58 years and relies entirely on the kindness and generosity of donations to keep the animals warm, fed and receiving the medical attention they need.
The Gray family, have run the animal refuge for 60 years and provide each animal with dedicated living space as well as the socialization they need as they await adoption into a caring and responsible home. On average, 30 animals live at the shelter at any given time. It is a no-kill shelter.
