SAFE Haven for Cats

SAFE Haven for Cats is a 501(c)(3) non-profit no-kill animal shelter and low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

The mission is to ensure the well-being of every cat through adoption, affordable spay/neuter services, community outreach and adherence to No Kill principles.

SAFE Haven's clinic provides low-cost services for stray, feral and owned cats in the Triangle. For $75, the cats are spayed/neutered, given a rabies and distemper vaccine, and provided with a thorough medical examination.

All cats and kittens at SAFE Haven receive the following prior to adoption: Sterilization, a rabies vaccine, distemper vaccines, testing for Feline Leukemia/FIV, treatment for fleas, intestinal parasites and ear mites, a thorough examination by a veterinarian, and a microchip including registration with a national registry (AKC).

SAFE Haven is Raleigh’s No Kill shelter and the only one exclusively for cats and kittens. SAFE Haven is a limited-access shelter; as one cat or kitten is adopted, another is rescued. While waiting for a space, cats are placed on a waiting list. The average length of stay for a cat at the shelter is 8 weeks. All cats adopted from SAFE Haven are sterilized prior to adoption and can never reproduce

We believe...

Every cat has value and deserves a chance for a permanent home.

You should only euthanize cats that are too ill or injured to recover. That's it. Unless a cat can't recover we consider it adoptable and will work hard to find a home for it and always do! If euthanasia is necessary it is by lethal injection only.

In Trap/Neuter/Return and committed through our own low cost spay and neuter clinic to sterilizing as many feral as well as stray cats and personal pets in our community as we can.

In treating all cats in our shelter and make decisions for them the same way we do our own personal pets at home.

No time limits are imposed on the process of restoring a cat or kitten to well being.
