Happy Tales Avian Rescue

Matching birds with their Parronts-to-be resulting in life-long companionship. Healing the sick, welcoming the unwanted, accepting the surrendered

Happy Tales was founded by Ashley Wallace and Joe Crawford after the rescue of 5 Cockatiels being sold as "Tame, wonderful birds". Joe saw something in a little emaciated plucked bird. He saw misery in his eyes.

We made that 4 hour round-trip drive to pick these babies up. They were skinny, hissing, scared little birds overcrowded in a cage that would comfortably house 1, instead of 5 of these birds. Not knowing if we would ever be able to handle them, if they'd flourish or even survive, we loaded them up and headed home.

Housing in adequite cages, new diet, new toys, vetted, nails clipped, wings clipped, bathed, they started to come around. About a month later, the birds were unrecognizable and all have found their forever homes.

We, as humans, took these magnificent creatures out of their Wild Habitat due to their beautiful looks and ability to speak without knowing just how much dedication and committment it takes to fully enrich an Avian Life. There are no bird sanctuaries in Michigan. There are just small rescues like ourselves, working out of our homes. The situation is not ideal, but we all do the best that we can do and we all network together to make sure that our FIDS (Feathered Kids) are being supported as much as humanly possible.

We have rescued hoarding surrenders, Humane Society removals, surviving family member surrenders, abuse and neglect....the list goes on and on.....

Many family and friends have asked how they can help without taking a bird into their homes (they are more dog and cat people) :)

This is how! Allow us the financial means to help even more animals find their forever homes. Help us to vet the ill, house the homeless and feed the hungry.

You could also donate bird food, toys, puppy pads or cage liners, make a forging toy.

If you are crafty, you could make a seed catcher to go along the bottom of the cages. (Goodness knows I am not that talented).

Even if you do not have the will or the way to donate to our cause, the fact that you took the time to read our story means the world to us!

Just taking the time to convince someone to look at Rescues and Shelters before Pet Shops and backyard breeders and to Adopt, instead of Shop means the world to us!

A sad story can always have a glorious ending :)

Thanks for your time!
