The First Step Rescue is a 501c3 non-profit "Wall Less" rescue/shelter organization that is run by folks who generously volunteer their time, homes and hearts to help. We are dedicated to caring for the homeless in our community through our fostering program and providing vet care for these dogs until loving homes can be found thru our adoptions process. Our foster care program allows dogs to have a safe, healthy "place to be" until they can return to their loving homes or new ones can be found for them.
We are also big on educating the public on how to begin their search for their lost dogs in our community by taking a pro-active approach in assisting those families, vet clinics, police departments etc. by getting the word out and networking these lost/homeless dogs. We do this with every stray we take into our rescue just in case and never assume. We believe this not only helps in locating the owners, brings attention for possible adoptions and educates on the homeless/unwanted pet issues in our community.

Our adoption process consists of an application, home visit, and an adoption fee
All of our dogs have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, microchipped and have received any other necessary medical care. We do local adoptions, within 50 miles of Downers Grove Illinois.
