Brooklyn Cat Cafe

Brooklyn’s first and only cat cafe is open! Our nonprofit cat cafe is home to our adoptable rescue cats and a resource center to help animals in need.

Humans and cats share a powerful emotional bond. A soft, purring cat enfolded in the embrace of a loving person is one of life's great joys for both. And we enjoy hours of laughter watching their hilarious antics whether in our homes with a toy, or all over the internet.

Sadly, the reality for too many cats is far different. Every year 1.4 million cats are killed in city shelters across the United States. New York City alone killed nearly 2,400 adoptable cats in the city shelters in 2014. An estimated tens of thousands more live on the city’s streets facing the threats of cars, disease, cold, starvation and cruelty.

Brooklyn Cat Café will provide the community with a place to spend time with cats AND the tools to help animals in need, offering:

1. A nonprofit Cat Café where the community can come spend time playing and cuddling with cats.
2. An adoption center to keep cats off the streets and out of the shelters until they find their forever homes.
3. A community resource center providing services to help people help animals:
• Resources for animal rescuers: In New York City independent animal rescuers spend thousands of dollars of their own money rescuing and caring for companion animals often while working full time jobs. Brooklyn Cat Cafe will offer veterinary clinics in the evenings with low cost vaccines and veterinary exams for animal rescuers.
• Resources for owners to keep pets in homes: We will offer pet owners low cost vaccines and veterinary exams, as well as workshops on medical and behavior issues where pet owners can address questions to a veterinarian.
• Humane education: Classes for young people and the community to learn the value of caring for urban animals both wild and domesticated, and to teach responsible pet ownership.
• TNR Resources – Trap-Neuter-Release, or TNR, is a proven humane and effective method to reduce the population of unadoptable, outdoor community cats. Brooklyn Cat Café will provide space for TNR certification workshops and much needed holding space for TNR projects in Brooklyn.
