Duke PAWS (Promoting Animal Welfare Through Service) is a Duke student community service group organized to raise awareness on campus and in the community about the companion animal (cats, dogs, gerbils, etc.) population in Durham and educate the public on the importance of proper animal care. This work is achieved through a variety of events and is not limited to volunteering at the Animal Protection Society of Durham (APS) on a weekly basis, participating in fundraising and awareness events in the community run by the APS, holding Animal Awareness Day and Campus Adoption Day on Duke’s campus as annual events and teaching proper animal care at local elementary schools.
