The mission of Sammie's Friends is to provide medical care for the animals at the Nevada County Animal Shelter, making them adoptable, and to support other disadvantaged animals in Nevada County that without help would go to the Shelter or be euthanized.

We accept donations to pay for medical care for the animals. Many times the animals have conditions which keeps them from being adopted, yet the condition is not considered an emergency because it is not life-threatening (i.e. demodectic mange, broken legs and hips, amputation of legs, respiratory infections, foxtails in the ear and nose, and many more conditions). If these conditions are not cared for, the inevitable is that the animal will be euthanized because no one will adopt them in the condition they are in.

Animals often come to the Shelter because they are strays and have been abandoned by people who should have cared for them. Many of these animals have medical problems. In 2010, Sammie's Friends paid for medical care for 799 animals and spent more than $148,204 for their care. With your continuing donations, we can help even more animals in the future.

On July 1, 2010, Sammie’s Friends assumed management of the Nevada County Animal Shelter under contract to Nevada County. In the first six months since we began operation of the shelter, we have paid for the care of 802 additional animals at a cost of over $75,000. Sammie’s Friends is making a difference in the animal community in Nevada County.

Sammie's Friends provides funds for medical care of disadvantaged animals in Nevada County and operates the Nevada County Animal Shelter.
