Saving MiraBelle

Raising funds to give MiraBelle the surgery she needs to survive. Without surgery, the tumour will grow and she will no longer be able to eat, breathe and it will eventually kill her. A literature review suggests untreated canine OM is insidious and locally aggressive.

"MiraBelle" Winter Rose is a 1 year old Golden Retriever who was rescued from an out-of-province breeding puppy mill and saved by a Prince Edward Island woman. She had suffered severe abuse and neglect. The side of her face had been smashed in with blunt force trauma that broke her jaw, knocked out all of her baby teeth and recessed her eye back into its socket. Once she had been stabilized and brought to PEI, it was determined that due to the trauma to the face, she had developed an extremely rare tumour known as Odotogenic Myxoma. MiraBelle is the 3rd diagnosed case world-wide.

Ruth VanDuiven has spearheaded a campaign to raise money for surgery which will allow MiraBelle to live out the normal life of a Golden Retriever. A $4,000 surgery by an orthopedic veterinary surgeon at the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown, PEI is required. Dr. Pius Murnaghan, from Brudenell Animal Clinic, PEI, has offered help with MiraBelle’s eye. However, key to a successful outcome is having the tumour removed.
