Founded in 1987, Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society provides safe refuge & compassionate care, and finds forever homes for abandoned & neglected animals.

The mission of the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society is to provide a caring and compassionate home for the animals in our care until we find them a forever home. On any given day, we may have up to nearly 100 dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens in our nonprofit, no kill shelter.

Our shelter is tucked away on 10 rolling acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, surrounded by the natural beauty of scenic forests, mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and lakes.

The dogs and puppies romp and run in spacious outdoor play yards during the day. In the evening, they are all brought indoors to sleep in their own kennel, on their own bed, with biscuits, toys and soothing music.

The cats and kittens are free to play and interact in cage-less community cat rooms – each with a screened porch and large windows. Their lives are enriched with toys and daily socialization by staff and visitors alike.

We welcome visitors to our shelter seven days a week, Monday through Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and on Sunday noon to 5:00pm. Through your support, we can maintain a high quality of care and high adoption rates for our dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens.
