Udruzenje za zastitu zivotinja "Lina"-Animal welfare organisation "Lina"

Animal protection

Lina's Animal rescue is small organisation for animal welfare in northern Serbia in the small city of Čoka near the Hungarian border. We are the only ones taking care of the street dogs. We have more than 25 dogs in small private unfinished shelter and 20 dogs in boarding kennel . Many of the dogs and puppies in our shelter are ill. As all of our funds have been used, we are forced to live at the shelter with just basic facilities and very little comforts. You can see our living conditions and the immediate need for some dogs to get medical attention in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhpJd31dWb4 You can also see there is no perimeter wall but only a small fence. This means only the puppies, the old and the ill dogs can be housed at our shelter, making this is not an ideal situation. Funds are desperately needed to pay the boarding kennel fees, improve our shelter facilities and get the sick animals much needed veterinary care. The life of street dogs everywhere is difficult, but here in Serbia the dog catchers kill them rather than rescue them. Finding homes is very difficult as the culture in Serbia is not to adopt dogs, but rather buy a puppy then turn it out in the streets later when it is grown. Ideally we want to adopt the dogs outside Serbia, but this involves blood-work, lab tests and transportation fees. The average Serbian salary is 200€ and each dog's boarding fees are 60€ per month. With 20 dogs currently in boarding facilities, the debt is too great to even think about renovating our shelter. First we must improve our housing situation as boarding costs are too high, pay bills and veterinary fees and then join forces with international rescue groups to finds these animals 'furever" homes outside of Serbia.
This organization is dedicated to a little black pregnant dog Lina. She was our first rescue who sadly died 2 months after giving birth. She is our inspiration. much loved and greatly missed.
