Animal Advocates is a non-profit, all-volunteer, Pittsburgh-based animal welfare organization involved in the rescue and permanent placement of cats and dogs who are in need of finding new homes. Many of our animals are either special needs or came to us when previous owners were forced to relinquish their pets under difficult circumstances. Others come from open door shelters who can only keep animals for a very limited period of time. We are not a shelter. Except for a limited number of cats fostered at our office, our adoptable rescued animals are cared for in loving, volunteer foster homes. We can only sponsor as many animals as we have foster homes currently available. In addition, we are involved in efforts to help the local companion animal population, reach out to the community and local officials on behalf of animals, promote animal rights issues and encourage humane lifestyle options.

To help pay for the extensive veterinary care and other costs for caring for our animals, Animal Advocates runs a resale boutique (thrift store).
