Life Is A Beach Horse Rescue
Life's A Beach Horse Rescue is in existence because of a horse and three women who have come together with the same vision. Save the animals we love.
Life's a Beach Horse Rescue...funny name for a horse rescue...unless you know the story.
Sometimes a horse comes into your life and changes it for the better, or you are given the chance to ride a horse that you never imagined owning. I was given that chance, his name was Beach Bum. He was an OTTB that could run like the wind and and had the heart of an elephant. Life moved on, his navicular made it to where he couldn't be ridden much. Back in the 80's I had no clue what happened when a horse went to auction. I was talked in to sending this horse to auction. I will never forget the day he left, watching me from that trailer. The picture in my mind still haunts me. Fast forward to a 2015. I needed something to fill the time I now had on my hands, due to some new lifestyle changes. I needed to get back to who I was and what I knew. I ended up at Dreamcatchers Horse Rescue, holding a horse for a farrier. I knew from that moment on what had been missing from my life. Horses. Something I grew up with and understood just as they understood me. Horses were my focus as a young girl/woman raised on a ranch and rodeoing. Once again I was hooked and knew I needed a horse in my life. Along comes Stella, the horse in the profile picture. Little did I know, but Stella was the first horse I had handled while at Dreamcatchers, During these months before meeting Stella once again, I learned from just watching and reading about kill lots and horse rescues. I, as many others was appalled at what the kill lot buyers were doing and the amount of money being made on these animals that had been abandoned at auction. Some were horses that families could no longer care for, some were horses that had been trained improperly, or had been abused. Some just were never given the chance, and some had an injury that would mean they were to never be ridden again and should've lived their life out on pasture. During this time the guilt of what I may have sent that beloved horse of mine to had really eaten at me. Now, back to Stella....I went out to Dreamcatchers to meet her. Something clicked, we were connected and she has become my spirit animal. If you know me, you know the personality she has! What I also did not know would happen, is that along with Stella two amazing young women came into my life. Misty and Megan. At first it was just a trainer/trainee relationship. That has since grown into a friendship I can not imagine living without. These young women worked so hard with Stella who was a very untrusting, scared mare. Albeit, almost too smart for her own good. Our friendship and mutual respect for each other grew just as Stella grew in her training. We soon figured out that we worked well together, I depended on them more than they will ever know and will be forever thankful for what I have learned from them . I watched Misty and Megan work with other rescue horses, putting their own time and money into saving these animals. This started the conversation one night over dinner. My story about Beach Bum came out and along with that a huge amount of emotion and guilt over what I had possibly sent my best friend to. It was then we decided to move forward with the plan to help save these beautiful beasts and form our own rescue. Misty and Megan wanted to name it after Beach Bum. And that is how we came up with Life's a Beach Horse Rescue. I hope that we can save an owner and some horses from having the same experience. I applaud all the horse rescues out there that are doing this same thing. I thank Julie DeMusey for saving Stella. I thank Lanya Clinard for helping me with Red. I thank all of you who put forth the effort of saving these horses. I hope that we can be as useful as you all have been. My biggest thanks goes to Megan Wojchik and Misty Arellano for being so patient with Stella and I, for your dedication to these animals, but mostly for your friendship!
