Remember Dennis? He was a cat brought to the shelter that had been shot and needed his leg amputated earlier this Spring.
Thanks to our wonderful donors on social media, his leg was amputated at Southshore Animal Hospital and he’s been in a foster home waiting for the perfect home that would let him be King of his castle.
After his first month long trial sleepover, we discovered, he really isn’t a fan of cats. So we knew we just had to be patient and there would be someone out there that didn’t have any other cats and wanted to help a special needs adult cat.
This week we got the best application on Dennis! Tonight we finalized his adoption and he went home with his new mom. Send Dennis and Lindsey all the good vibes! He’s really the sweetest cat and we are so happy we could get him healthy and happy with your help!

UPDATE: BOTH ADOPTED!
Meet Stella & Stanley! These adorable kittens are brother and sister. They were brought to the shelter when they were tiny tiny and we pulled them and put them in a foster home to put on some weight.
Stella is super chatty like you would expect a good southern woman to be. Stanley was the littlest baby and we were scared we were going to lose him at first because he was very dehydrated and sickly. But he was a fighter and pulled through. Now he’s a sweet little lover boy. And don’t worry, this isn’t a story like the New Orleans Tale we all know, Stella beats up on Stanley. 😂
They are about 3.5 months old, spayed/neutered, UTD on vaccines, microchipped and tested negative for FeLV/FIV.
Email Rachel@jeffersonspca.org for an application.

Meet Bob Marley, Bob Ross & Bob Dylan!
Update: Bob Dylan adoption pending!
These 3 boys are some of our sweetest and most affectionate kittens. They are about 3.5 months old. They are very well socialized as we have a playroom and let all our kittens play together.
Bob Ross and Bob Dylan are polydactyl and Bob Dylan is also has a bobtail. They are all neutered, UTD on vaccines, microchipped and tested negative for FeLV/FIV/HW. Adoption fee is $65 or we prefer our kittens to go in pairs because kittens need friends if you don’t have other felines, a pair adoption fee is $100. All applications are subject to approval.
Email Rachel@jeffersonspca.org for an application.

Merci has been with us for over 4 months. Her family surrendered her and her 2 brothers to the shelter and we pulled them all. Her 2 brothers were adopted almost immediately because of their looks but Merci keeps getting overlooked. She’s about 3 years old. She was recently spayed. We think a home without small children is best. Her love language is Temptations and wet food. (Can you blame her?) She’s a beautiful tuxedo with her little French mustache. She’s like your typical girlfriend, she gets hangry, you feed her and she’s sweet as can be. She thinks she’s a baker. She likes to practice her croissant making skills on her bed.
To apply, email Rachel@jefferson@jeffersonspca.org for an application.

Happy National Dog Day! How are you celebrating with your dog today? Hopefully with something fun like a walk or a frozen treat to beat this heat! Let us know in the comments!
08/08/2021
TODAY IS INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY!
We want to share some fun ways to celebrate the great feline species!
1. Adopt a homeless cat, kitten or a pair of kittens! Whether it's a feral cat or a cat from our local shelter or rescue group.
2. Educate yourself about Feral/Community Cats. It's so important to know about Trap, Neuter and Return and why it's the best solution for helping the overpopulation of cats. Go to alleycat.org and follow Alley Cat Allies for more knowledge of feral/community cats! Join us in JP Community Cats Facebook Group to learn how to TNR cats in our parish.
3. Donate cat supplies to your local shelter/rescue group. You can donate to us, Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services, SpayMart, A Tail In Need, Metairie Kittens Rescue/Adoption, Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO) or any other group in our area that you know rescues cats/kittens.
4. Make the day special for your own cat. Not that everyday isn't cat day in your home, we all know how cats are. 🙄 But maybe some fresh toys, a new scratching post or some cat nip would be loved by your cat!

We try really hard to find the best homes for our kittens, especially ones that will continue to care and spoil them the way we do. We had this amazing family come in wanting to adopt but couldn’t adopt right away. They had to wait to adopt because they had lost a cat to FIP and their vet wanted them to wait so long before they adopted another cat. Well they came and fell in love with our kittens. They became like family coming every week to play with the kittens they had chosen to adopt. THREE KITTENS THAT IS! The more they came, the more they saw us care for Tab. He was a kitten brought to us by a Good Samaritan that was highly allergic and honestly thought it was just a piece of trash for a day. He went to go pick it up and figured out it was a kitten. He called us and normally we can’t take them in but this situation sounded bad and we decided we would take turns fostering. We rushed him to our vet. She told us not to name him at this time and wait 7 days. She kind of helped us pick a potential name because she was playing Tab Benoit on her phone while she examined him. 5 days later we thought we were out of the woods. He was eating on his own and poops were happening. Well Beth just felt something was odd. He was warm and just very bloated looking. Turns out, he couldn’t pee. Our vet had to remove urine via syringe. We were calling him Tab by then and our vet said, I told you not to name him yet. Well later that day, Tab peed all over Beth. He wanted to show he was a fighter and maybe he didn’t know how to pee on his own but he was going to learn. The adopters fell in love with Tab and went home and discussed it and decided they wanted to adopt him as well. So his 3 moms discussed it and said they would be the perfect family for him and they have a great relationship with their vet to make sure he thrives. But the stipulation was that we get visitation rights. We were kidding, sort of. 😂 They took Emma, Ross and Chandler home but had to wait a couple of weeks before they could take Tab since he wasn’t fixed yet. Finally he got fixed and he went home a few weeks ago. Today, Beth, Amelie and Rachel got to visit the gang! We really have some amazing adopters!

Happy National Kitten Day! It’s Kitten crazy these days! While we love kittens, we wish more people would spay and neuter their kitties!
This is one of the craziest kitten seasons ever. If you want to help, fostering some kittens through the Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services would be a great start! #nationalkittenday

Do you want to help the many homeless baby kittens in our community?
One way you can help is by learning how to bottle feed! Often times kittens needing bottle feeding come in to the shelters and rescues in our area without warning. Volunteers are needed immediately to help save their lives.
It doesn't matter which organization you volunteer with, we want to help you help kittens!
Kerry, ARNO's neonatal foster coordinator is hosting a bottle feeding class on Thursday, June 17th at 5:30pm at Jefferson Feed on Jefferson Hwy/Central Avenue. It's just $10 for the class and all participants will receive an emergency kitten kit. Please sign up via email to Rachel@jeffersonspca.org by Thursday morning at 10am!

Today is National Best Friends Day! You know who needs a best friend? A kitten! 🐱🐱
When we do adoptions, we recommend pair adoptions for kittens because it can prevent so many unwanted behaviors going forward.
Read on the Kitten Lady’s website about why adopting a pair of kittens is a whole kitten!
http://www.kittenlady.org/twokittens
Often times, people can get upset with us on our bonded pair adoptions, but we are trying our best to set our kittens up for success! We have put our blood, sweat and tears into taking care of these kittens for over 6 weeks, that they become like our own.
06/07/2021
We are having a KITTEN ADOPTION EVENT! Most of our 42 kittens are ready to find their forever homes! We’ll create an event and post pictures of our available kittens. We will also setup a form to pre-apply so your app can be approved before Sunday!

#latergram Yesterday was National Donut Day! The day got away from us taking care of so many kittens and we forgot to post. But we can’t not post pictures of our adorable Friends Litter who just got fixed! (Well everyone but Rachel, she’s the tiniest.) #adoptdontshop #nationaldonutday #friendsreunion
