We're extremely grateful to be kicking off this Giving Tuesday with a DONATION MATCH: The first $2,500 raised today will be paired with a corresponding contribution by one of our supporters. Not only is that an amazing opportunity to see the impact of your gift doubled, it will help us get halfway to our $10,000 goal!

Your donations are what give us the ability to say "yes!" to cats and dogs in need of our rescue, particularly those Heartstrings animals who require more extensive and specialized resources. Because of your support, we are able to provide them with access to any and all medical or behavioral assistance they need to be set up for success in their future home, as well as the commitment that we will remain a lifelong safety net for them.

Featured here are just a few examples from among our adoptables of the impact we strive to make in our community: Through our focus on helping animals who have more extensive medical or behavioral conditions and thus fewer rescue options. By devoting the extra time, care, and resources that they need, we’re able to save a life that might otherwise be lost, help bring together a new family when that animal is adopted, and build a more compassionate community for both the pets and people of Portland.

Meet Risa! ✨

Risa is sweet and petite, only 5.5 lbs and fully grown. She can be reserved at times, but when she feels comfortable she enjoys petting and playtime. She loves to be up in a cat tree looking out the window, so a home with lots of windows and nearby trees is a huge plus 🌳

(which lucky for us is every season, yay! 🥰)

Get ready for all the feels, everyone! This one is in honor of foster dog alum, Jet, who I think we can agree is living all of our best lives:

"When I got Jet’s one-year adoptiversary note in the mail, I couldn’t believe that it has almost been a year since this bouncy, dramatic pup came into my life. He has completely changed my life; I absolutely love and adore him, and he tolerates us (just kidding). He loves learning new tricks, playing fetch, bullying pumpkins, and putting himself to bed nice and early.

Together we have explored Oregon by running along the coast, paddle boarding in Bend, cheering on the Ducks in Eugene, walking the trails of the Gorge, and skiing at Hood. We have backpacked in Washington, explored the dusty trails of Idaho, and run through the sagebrush of Montana. We’ve camped at bustling sites and desolate ones, paddled through “rapids,” rode in side by sides, experienced waterfalls, swam in crisp alpine lakes, walked busy city streets as well as towns with a population of 35. He has watched the sunset atop of mountains, made horse friends, napped at breweries, and slept through long road trips. He is my best friend and adventure bud.

No matter the experience or challenge, he always gives me his unwavering trust and takes everything in stride. Every day I ask myself how I got so lucky with him. I try to give him the best life possible by showing him all the things I love and making sure we always play a game of fetch, because your description in his adoption bio was spot on: Ball is most definitely life for him. Thank you for bringing him into our lives and for trusting me with his care. Thank you for all you do for the cats and dogs that need you; you all impact the lives of animals and humans.

Well, I told myself I would keep this short…that didn’t work. He just means so much to me and I am very grateful."

Not Arcadia and Astoria playing “Who’s Cuter?” 👀😻🥰

These two sweeties were getting inconsistent care and were given to a neighbor who brought them to us. As you can tell, they are living the good life now! They love playing and cuddling, but as with most kitties who find themselves in a shelter, new things can be a little scary. They will need a home with patient humans who can care from them both, but with the laughs and snuggles they’ll bring you, why wouldn’t you want both of them?! 💕
