Small Paws Retirement Village

Small Paws Retirement Village is a non-profit sanctuary for senior puppy mill survivors and other small senior dogs from unfortunate circumstances.

Small Paws Retirement Village is a small, small dog animal sanctuary. We take in older, hospice or hard to place dogs rescued from puppy mills, kill shelters, or other unfortunate circumstances such owner surrender or death of an owner, and provide them with a loving forever home. We are a 501(c)3 PACFA licensed facility.

Many dogs are rescued from puppy mills and other unfortunate circumstances but not all are able to find a loving forever home in a timely manner. Some rescued animals are terminally ill. Others are skittish, nervous and/or fearful. Others are so old that they are consistently passed up for adoption. These dogs need an environment where they can get love, attention, and proper medical care so they can live out their days in a home instead of a kennel where they can learn what it is to be a dog. One that is safe loved and cared for.

If dogs are in a kill shelter, they may end up euthanized for no other reason than they did not find a home before their time was up. Those in no kill shelters may spend months on end in a kennel environment. Granted it is in a better environment than where they came from, but they deserve better.

Small Paws Retirement Village provides its residents with a home situated in the scenic countryside of southern CO. There are no kennels or runs to keep the dogs isolated for no reason. There is, however, space available to separate dogs as needed by utilizing different rooms in the house and gates. As it is important that the dogs get along, dogs are screened on a case-by-case basis to be sure they can assimilate into the pack without incident. Due to the nature of the facility, space is limited so new dogs will be added as space permits. Although Small Paws Retirement Village is designed for dogs, placement for cats may occasionally be considered, again on a case-by-case basis.

All dogs are treated as members of a family. They are provided with medical care as needed including checkups, vaccinations, dentals, medication as required and emergency care if/when necessary. The dogs are fed a quality diet twice a day, provided with healthy treats and are groomed regularly. They are provided with a comfortable living environment including lots of beds, sun porch, a doggie door to a secure covered grassy outdoor area, and two other secure outdoor areas where they can get lots of sun and exercise without risk of them getting in harms way.
