City of Hondo Animal Care Services & Shelter

The City of Hondo Animal Shelter is a temporary home to lost, unwanted and stray animals. This shelter is part of the Hondo Police Department.

Our mission is to enforce the State Laws and City Ordinances established by the State of Texas and the City of Hondo while providing safety for civilians and animals alike.

Our goal is to ensure humane care while the animals are in our custody, enable adoptions to individuals and facilitate transfers to rescue organizations, and humanely euthanize animals as necessary.

If you are interested in adoption please call or come by. Adoption hours are 9 am - 5 pm, Monday- Friday.
Our fees include:
Adoption fee $25.00 (includes rabies shot)
City Registration fee $5.00 if the animal is not spayed/neutered.
$3.00 if the animal is spayed/neutered.

Animal Impound Fees: Violation: 1st-$25.00, 2nd-$30.00, 3rd-$40.00, 4th-$50.00.

A daily handling fee of $6.00 shall be charged for every day, or fraction thereof, that an animal is at the shelter, in addition to the impound fee.

If proof of current vaccination IS NOT provided for any animal over 3 moths of age, an additional charge of $12.00 will be applied.

Quarantine Fees: a daily handling fee of $8.00 shall be charged for everyday, or fraction thereof, that an animal is placed in quarantine, in additional to the impound fee.

Owner of an animal destroyed by an Animal Care Services Officer, shall be assessed an additional fee of $50.00 for rabies examination or $25.00 for euthanasia, as appropriate, in addition to the existing impound fees, per destroyed animal, when the animal is not suspected of rabies infection.
